Eds coach Paul Vowles was full of praise for his side. "It was a game in which we showed a lot of passion, but we are not yet the finished article," he said.
Sam Montague, playing at outside centre, crossed for Barkers after 18 minutes and two Nathan Tilsley penalties in the last five minutes of the half gave the home side a useful advantage. But Eds fly-half Duncan Carter used the wind to good effect after the break to pin Barkers in their half, and tries from debut winger Arwel Davies and back row Stuart Holes and a penalty and conversion by Ashley Kalnins put the visitors in front before Davies hacked through from his own half to seal victory at the death with his second try.
