Lions aiming to keep up the good work

RUGBY Lions go into tomorrow's EDF Energy National Trophy second-round tie against in-form Luctonians at Webb Ellis Road on the back of a hat-trick of National League Three South victories. An intriguing confrontation seems on the cards for a place in Monday's draw as improving Lions strive to tame the Midlands One championship leaders. The Hereford outfit have won eight of their nine league
outings so far and on average conceded just nine points per game, a record they will be eager to repeat against home outfit that boasts almost 230 points from their ten fixtures.

One player certain to take a prominent role for Rugby is skipper Alex Nash, who posted a man of the match performance in the hard earned 17-14 success over Barking last Saturday and is sure to be probing The Lucs' miserly defence for openings.

However, there's no quarter being given by the Rugby pack who are delivering consistently, showing the quality and tenacity that's helped their team rise impressively up the table and an outside chance of getting into the promotion race.

Director of Rugby Mark Ellis has stressed that the Trophy does not figure at the top of the club's priority list so the possibility could be he fields some of the fringe players to give them pitch time. But Ellis is a winner and the one thing that their recent spate of victories has done is give the side added confidence.

So a weakened line-up and defeat to lower level opposition could have a negative effect on his players, who are beginning to show their steel and ability to win rugby games when not necessarily at their peak.

It's a tricky call but no side likes losing and Rugby will be out to prove that on home soil this weekend.
