Rugby Lions 18 London Scottish 18

RUGBY LIONS staged a superb fightback to deprive runaway leaders London Scottish of another victory. Scottish looked hot favourites to add to their ten previous league wins when they went into the break 15-6 ahead. But a determined Lions came out battling and – despite Stuart Riding being sin-binned on 63 minutes – managed to haul themselves back into the game. Lions had scored first
through James Hawken’s third-minute penalty, but Scottish hit back six minutes late with a try from Ian McInroy.

On the half-hour mark, a fine Lions attack ended with Hawken’s second penalty restoring his side’s lead.

But after that they started to concede penalties.

James Brown kicked one and converted Alex Karionas’ try to give Scottish a nine-point half-time lead.

Ade Hales pulled a try back on the hour, but the loss of Riding made Lions’ task harder and another Brown penalty extended Scottish’s lead.

However, Rugby refused to give up and Hales went over for his second try – converted by Hawken – to secure a share of the points.

Rugby Lions: Tries, Hales 2; conversion, Hawken; penalties, Hawken 2.

London Scottish: tries, McInroy, Karionas; conversion, Brown; penalties, Brown 2.
