ALCESTER collected the points they were denied when their 34-0 result in October was overturned because the game finished with passive scrums. There was nothing remotely submissive about the replay, a fully-committed, sometimes feisty affair, but Tech again made life difficult for themselves by starting with 14 men. Once up to full strength, midway through the first half, Alcester
were all but home and hosed with tries by left-winger Stuart Whitehead, fly-half Ash Newdick and flanker Mika Pieri, the third converted by Max Biltcliffe.

An opportunist try by Tech’s late arrival reduced the arrears but Biltcliffe and his right-wing colleague rounded off flowing moves to establish a 27-5 advantage at the break.

Alcester’s resolute defence produced a counter-attacking bonus when scrum-half Robbie Parker freed skipper Scott Carmichael to bulldoze his way over the line despite the attention of three home defenders.

Coventry raised their spirits with a converted try but, as the game became ever more disjointed and confrontational, Ash Newdick had the final word with a penalty following a skirmish that resulted in both sides losing a player to the sin-bin.
