CANADIAN international Aaron Carpenter will be playing in Coventry colours next season. The 26-year-old No.8 has signed a deal that will bring him to the Butts Park Arena after next month’s Churchill Cup series involving Canada, England Saxons, Ireland A, Argentina Jaguars and hosts United States. Rugby director Phil Maynard is delighted to finally have his man after an unsuccessful attempt
to capture Carpenter following last season’s round of autumn internationals.

“He’s a ball-carrying No.8 who is really combative, and exactly the type of player we want to attract,” said Maynard. “He has had some outstanding games for Canada recently and is what we are looking for as we put together a strong squad.”

Carpenter, who hails from Ontario, won his first cap for Canada in 2005 when he was named rookie-of-the-year and has now won 21 caps. He was in the Canada squad at the 2007 World Cup.

n BOURGOIN have requested a change of date for their European Cup final against Northampton which is scheduled to go ahead Gloucester on Friday, May 22 – less than a week after the French club’s crucial domestic clash with Brive.
