CHAMPIONS Nuneaton finished their season in style with a resounding eight-try victory over a depleted Fylde side. The visitors were without a number of key players who had opted to turn out for their county Lancashire in their Bill Beaumont Cup clash with Warwickshire. And the Liberty Way hosts took full advantage with Ben Gilbert leading the way with a hat-trick. Micky Moore opened the
scoring in the opening minute with Gilbert adding the first of his treble seven minutes later.

Gilbert added to the score midway through the half after some impressive work from Rob Cook and Aaron Takarangi.

Huw Thomas kicked the conversion and also two more as Nuneaton piled on the points in injury time as Moore bagged his second to add to a Gary Holmes try.

Fylde came out flying at the start of the second period and big Grant Fergusson scored his side’s only try on 45 minutes.

But the Nuns weathered the storm with Gilbert completing his hat-trick on the hour before Holmes went over 10 minutes later for a score that was converted by Cook.

The final say went to the impressive Takarangi who completed the scoring five minutes from time allowing Cook to slot home his second conversion.

Nuneaton: tries Gilbert (3), Moore (2), Takarangi, Holmes (2); conversions Thomas (3), Cook (2).

Fylde: try Ferguson.
