Coventry sign Richie Bignell from Moseley
By John Wilkinson
May 13 2009

BACK row forward Richie Bignell is moving to Coventry from Midlands rivals Moseley.

The 22-year-old flanker – a product of Colston’s College and Bristol Academy – becomes the fifth addition to Coventry’s pack for the inaugural Championship season after lock Arthur Brenton, No.8 Aaron Carpenter, prop James Hall and second row Louis McGowan whose return to the club from Rotherham has also been confirmed.

Bignell, an England under-18 cap, was outstanding in Moseley’s National Trophy-winning side last season and rugby director Phil Maynard is delighted to be bringing him to the Butts Park Arena.

“Richie is an out and out open side, which is what I’ve been looking for, and has a ‘dog’ attitude to him,” said Maynard.

“He works hard on the pitch, and he’s a 30 games a season man. He has also been the players’ player at Mosley in the last couple of seasons which is another thing I look for in someone.

“He wanted to go proper full-time as the best way to move his career forward and improve his rugby, and he feels this is the best way which is great for us.”

McGowan, 30, made 17 appearances for Cov in the 2001-02 season before moving to Belfast Harlequins and then Rotherham where he was a winner of the player-of-the-year accolade.

Standing 6 feet 5 and weighing 18 and a half stones, he played a prominent role for Lancashire in the 66-28 win over Warwickshire at Butts Park last Saturday.

Re: Coventry sign Richie Bignell from Moseley
Some interesting stat's:
Of the 19 league & cup games Moseley won Richie started 19 times.
Of the 8 league games where Moseley got a loosing bonus point Richie started 7 and was a sub for 1
Of the remaining 8 games when Moseley got nothing out of the game Richie started 1 and was a sub for 5 and did not appear for 2.

In summary of the 27 times Moseley got something out of the game Richies started 26 times and was a sub for the other.

Unsuprising then that Mose are sad to Richie move on & Phil happy to recieve him.[:wor kid:]
