Moseley sign England Sevens star Rob Thirlby
By Brian Dick
May 13 2009

Moseley are on the brink of confirming former England Sevens full back Rob Thirlby as their first new signing for the inaugural Championship season.

The 30-year-old full back joins from Redruth and brings several season’s worth of Premiership experience.

He comes in as a direct replacement for stalwart Andy Binns who retired at the of last term having helped the club secure level two rugby for another season and win the EDF Energy National Trophy.

For his part Thirlby spent the last two years playing in National Two with the club that gave him his first break in senior rugby and just a few weeks ago guided the Cornishmen to the highest league finish in their history. He also scored 18 tries in the process.

Ian Smith welcomed the veteran’s arrival. “Rob is a player who will add value to our squad in terms of experience and quality,” the head coach said.

“With Andy Binns’ retirement he will increase competition for the full back position. While primarily a full back, he can also play on the wing where his pace will be a big asset.”

Thanks Mick, I will endeavour to cover as much local rugby as possible, as I know from the ratings (hits) local rugby is of interest to the wider rugby fraternity

Sorry if my comment offended, but why do we have so many threads about other clubs cluttering things up.?

My comment reflects my general disinterest in other clubs.

Birmingham sports folk generally have no interest in what goes on in Coventry and Warwickshire, so please bear this in mind before berating me and others.

Coventry has to fight its own corner, no one will do it for us.....

i did suggest splitting the forums up so that people that care about the other clubs in the area can read but those who are on a Coventry Rugby forum to read about Cov can ignore them.

This suggestion was shot down due to the fact the mods havent got time to do it.

'Birmingham sports folk generally have no interest in what goes on in Coventry and Warwickshire'.

I am certainly interested in what is going on at Cov & Mose and find the posting of items about Cov's local rivals quite useful.

Given how things looked at the beginning of the season Cov did quite well I think, finishing 9th. Well done Uncle Phil et al. How are things shaping up for next season? Are things on a firmer footing? In Beesland I suspect it's 'make or break' time. Just hope our derby matches can resume.

welcome back Jel hope you get planning permission!
who knows what the future will bring for both of our teams, but so far Uncle Phil seems to be building a good squad.

Thanks Tom.

CK53, I remember when I moved to Solihull in '89 from London there was a campaign going on to get Solihull's postcode chnaged from being that of B'ham. Had to laugh as it was abundantly clear even then that Solihull was an integral part of 'Greater B'ham'.
