Coventry sign Welsh prop Scott Roberts

COVENTRY have mounted another raid on the Magners League to capture former Wales Under-21 prop Scott Roberts from Llanelli Scarlets. The 24-year-old tight head has signed a two-year deal with the Butts Park Arena club, and is joined by loose head Kevin Davis, who made three appearances at the end of last season as emergency front row cover and has now completed a permanent move. Rhondda-born

Roberts, who weighs in at 18 st 9 lb, made his Magners League debut for Cardiff Blues in April 2006 and notched up 14 appearances before moving to the Scarlets in the second half of last season.

“Looking at his career, Scott has been on the verge of making the big time and it would indicate that he is a good quality player,” said Cov’s rugby director Phil Maynard. “But having to play behind five or six international props all the time is never easy for an emerging young player and he’s had enough of it.

“He’s a good young player who is only going to get better with regular rugby in a competition like the Championship, and he’s another big lad for our pack.
