“All we took from it is we are now pretty certain who we can rely on for the next few weeks and who we can’t. To see what was happening hurt beyond belief, and the players had no reason for losing in that manner.”
Added Maynard: “We have moved the side around a bit trying to work out who is going to be best and we have one or two new lads to come in, but we have to accept we are what we are.
“When we strung a few phases together and got on the front foot, we looked good, but ill-discipline, penalties and coughing up the ball undid all that.
“We now have some massive games coming up against teams around us in the table which we need to win for our confidence, starting with Birmingham & Solihull at home on Friday night when we hope the fans will get behind us and give us a lift.”
Maynard also paid credit to London Welsh who, third in Championship table, he says can be considered title candidates.
“We were outgunned by a much better side,” he said. “Their forwards mixed it well with the backs, and the way they moved the ball into the danger areas was very slick.
“That performance was better than we saw from Bristol or Exeter, and its not impossible they will go on and win the league.”
