The season starts now!
By Dave Roach

I do not agree with the play-off system. In my opinion the team that finishes bottom after the final league game should be relegated. But I have to admit! I’m rather excited, and certainly nervous… The next six games will determine whether we are good enough or not. During the past month or so supporters have been, and still are apprehensive.

If you look only at the results you would rightly predict that we will be relegated.  Certainly the game at Rotherham a few weeks ago was hard to take, we were awful, no we were pathetic!  But since that game the players have slowly started to turn things around.  The results have still been terrible but the performances have improved.

Make no mistake tomorrow’s game at Rotherham will be very difficult.  They are playing well, they have a good pack and their backs move the ball quickly, and they have a good kicker.  I was especially impressed with their back row.  Our guy’s need to front up, have fire in their bellies and show Rotherham that we are not the same team whom capitulated and allowed them to walk all over us.  As a Cov supporter I was embarrassed.  I took exception at the way the Rotherham players took the preverbal ‘P’ every time they scored a try.  I hope our players saw and remember the way their players celebrated.  I want us to ram those celebrations down their throats, with interest.

I will be at the game tomorrow with my son.  I know we will not be relegated.  The season starts now.  To all players, coaches and supporters:

Divided we will fail, united we will conquer.

Come On Cov!

Re: The season starts now!
So hard to write this morning, I’m disappointed and upset. Disappointed with the result and upset with quite a few of the players. These players do not have enough in their locker; they are not good enough for this league. Their basic skills are inferior, they can not tackle properly, can not pass or retain the ball, and they do not possess the ability to read the game (out of position etc).

Yesterday’s performance was at times terrible, admittedly poor refereeing did not help, but we can not blame them for capitulating soft tries, where our tackling was nothing better than woeful. We also lacked someone to think ‘outside the box’, all season we have been saying the same old thing, we are one dimensional! Even if we were still playing now we would not have scored a try! It’s sad but true. And that’s why I’m getting very, very worried. I don’t know where our points are going to come from?

I was not expecting a win at Rotherham, I knew we would get beat and to be honest I was hoping we could scrounge a bonus point. Okay the Bees winning yesterday certainly does not help but it also makes it more difficult for Moseley. They would have expected a win, that’s put a spanner in their works.

Our attention must be to win our three games at home, if we can do that, I believe we can survive. Today I witnessed how a small but very vocal home crowd can lift a team and persuade the referee to make some very strange decisions in their favour. We need to do the same at BPA; we need to make it loud and intimidating, a fortress! You may laugh and scoff at my remarks but playing in front of a partisan crowd will lift our players, it will intimidate the opposition. As supporters we have a job to do, we need to get ourselves down to the BPA and create a gladiatorial atmosphere. See you there!

I feel so sorry for you, Dave. You voiced what we were all feeling and optimism won the day in the good piece which you put together.
The reality, however, is that this bunch of players is absolutely not capable of winning and of beating the oposition.
With Bees beating Mosely you now have to ask where the future of Cov lies.
Perhaps we need to settle into League 1 and retrench. The new management would appear to have clear direction, even though it would appear that past misdemeanours will live on to haunt us, but maybe a new start is needed.
I feel there is little doubt that PM should go.
If you look at our performances this season, despite the penalties which Cov has been required to absorb, there has been nothing to suggest that we have a right to remain in The Championship. Occupation of a position in it requires a very great deal more than this crop of no-hopers can even dream of, let alone deliver.

Re: The season starts now!
I was at the Birmingham/Solihull game on Saturday it was an advert for Rugby. Hardly any kick it up in the air and run after the ballduring the wholegame. Moseley started full of confidence which is not surprising after beating Bristol lastweekent, but gradually Bham/Solihullwore then down with passion commitment and endevour I do not know what the stats were regarding the tackles that Bham/Solihull made but it was incredible there was no way the Bees were going to lose this game. So if that is the yardstick that is required atleast us Coventry supporters are forewarned I am sure that the coaching staff are under no illusions thatthere will be no easy games

It's tempting to suggest that we settle in league one and build for the future, but if we end up there, it is unlikely that we could afford to have a fully professional side capable of giving us an early return to the Championship. If we did not return quickly, you only have to look at what has happened to once famous sides. We would also have a problem with the running costs of the BPA. Demotion means losing £400,000!

Relegation shouldn't be an option! The team should dig in and get us out of this mess, We do have some decent players but they are certainly lacking confidence.
I hope they realise that we are all behind the team no matter what comments are said on here good or bad, at the end of the day everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I would like to see a bit of fighting spirit from Cov, The likes of Scott Roberts and Benji being given a chance to have a go and put some grit into the side. Lets be honest we need to be dominant in the pack as then it might give our backs some confidence to pass the ball out to the wings quicker.
If we don't get into the game and unsettle B & S early in the game we could be in danger of giving them the confidence to go at us from the start.
A good show of dominance by our big hitters in our pack should hopefully put the brakes on any ideas of them running the show!!!
COME ON COV !!!! I am still going to be the ever optimist and say we wil still win at least 3 of the play off games!
COME ON LADS - SHOW A BIT OF STEEL ON THE FIELD!(Sm152)

Re: The season starts now!
I suppose it will take a miracle now to avoid relegation. Even an away win against BS won't be enough and there seems little or no chance of beating Rotherham or Moseley.

I'm not normally in favour of calling for the coach's head, but after seven consecutive defeats, and only one win in the last 14 matches, it seems to be the only throw of the dice available. On present form Cov are going to go down with six defeats out of six in the playoffs.

They can't recruit new players nor indeed new coaching staff either. But what about standing down Maynard and Hayes, letting Addleton prepare the forwards and Rossborough himself coaching the backs in preparation for the Moseley game?

The best tackle of the match was when the touch judge on the far side got mullard, the highlight of the game for me.
If I performed in my job to the same standard of what I saw today, I would be on the bloody dole.
Stay positive? How the hell can you stay positive after watching todays performance. Im gutted.

COME ON COV
