Up and under: Luke Myring's Coventry RFC column.

IT WAS always going to be a tall order to go to Ealing on Saturday and come away with a win and that’s how it proved to be.

For the second week running we fell behind and after just 28 minutes in we found ourselves 38-7 down.

Unfortunately this week the task to pull the game back was a little too large but the boys made a good go at it and within two minutes of the second half we had chipped Ealing’s lead to just 12 points at 38-26.

This however was as close as we were to get and Ealing showed why they are pushing for promotion this year demonstrating their class and pulling away again to finish the match at 55-33.

After falling behind so far so early on it would have been easy for the heads to drop and for us to fall away to a massive defeat but the guys showed their strength in character and resolve yet again and in the end came away from Ealing with a bonus point. Small reward for the effort put in but reward all the same.

This week it’s the last home game of a long season and we have another huge challenge in front of us in the form of table-topping Jersey.

It has been a season at the BPA which has given us many ups and downs from the dramatic wins against Ealing and Flyde to the sobering losses to Wharfdale and Sedgley Park but I think we have learnt a lot about ourselves and for all of the injuries and shuffling around I think we will be a much stronger squad going forward.

This week a win for Jersey would guarantee their promotion into the championship and so we will be looking to ruin their party and seek revenge for what was a deeply fought hard loss in the rain and mud at Jersey earlier on in the season.
