Adrian Kerr captained the winning Arabian Gulf's opening match of the 2007 World Cup qualification game away to Chinese Taipei today, with a victory of 26-30.

The New Zealander replaced Muscat's Gareth Allum, who was also a scrum-half, for what some would argue was the Gulf's most important match.

Eight new caps were named in the Gulf's squad of 22. Along with himself being given the captaincy for the first time.
Kerr believes the newcomers were ready to take this Gulf team all the way to the World cup in 2007, and have certainly made a massive step towards that.

Favourites, Chinese Taipei started the match with the added bonus of a home advantage and familiarity with soggy underfoot conditions as well as high humidity and driving rain in stark contrast to the hot and dry weather of the Gulf region. This couldn't prevent the Gulf team from having one of their greatest performances and a win that will give the high spirits against next opponents, China.

A date has yet to be set for the Gulf's delayed qualification game against China, due to be played in Dubai, September or November this year.
