A tough match that with a strong set of forwards on the Navy side. Pushing the Warriors off the ball at any chance.
The Navy had all of the first and even when they lost their number 6 with a straight red they still seemed the better pack. When Warriors had a man up and pushed the maul over the line they were held and not allowed to ground the ball and were pushed back over the line took the ball away from Warriors.
Part way through the second half Warriors begun to take some control of the match. With a quick tap penalty taken by Dave Delaney on the half way line before passing to Darren Ritchie who took the ball to score under the posts.
The Warriors changed shape after the two locks were replaced and Gully made some good progress. Soon Warriors had the opportunity for a catch and drive move and this time they got the try but I not sure who actually touched down.

Westcountry Warriors become only the third team this season to take away the spoils from Bristol United. The other development sides to beat Bristol being Harlequins and London Wasps! Bristol had a strong side but a number of the normal Warriors were unavailable, playing in the annual varsity match at Brickfields.
Bristol started strong with the strong wind at their backs went into an early lead. But Sila Va’Enuku took the advantage chipping the ball over the shallow defence and race to the ball and touch down.
A penalty try was awarded to Warriors late in the second half after constant infringement by the Bristol forwards.
Will Gingwell’s twin brother Adam made his debut for the Warriors and Ben Gulliver came on for the last 25 minutes bringing his presence to bear on the team and opposition.

On a weekend when Albion did not have a match the development side Westcountry Warriors travelled to the capital to play London Scottish. Playing under good conditions and with little wind and dry the Warriors played well and came away with the win. Playing for 20 minutes with a man down due to sin bins the Warriors started well despite a number of harsh decisions.
Warriors built up a lead 10 - 28 before Scottish came back but did not score enough to take the result.
A number of the Warriors will be hoping that their performances on the pitch in London will help them in breaking into the 1st team, which may include the Newbury match next Saturday.

The match that saw the return of Tom Arscott and a try to boot also saw Wihan Neethling play another full match for Warriors and the first start to Argentinean Mariano Castany at six.
A great game to watch if a bit worrying at times when Redruth were racking Plymouth players on the ground.
Presumably with a shortage of available front row players Graham Dawe took a step to the right to play loose head and in the second half Chris Lowrie came on in place of James Owen to take his place in the front row.
Even with a strong wind, which was in Warriors faces in the first half, all their attempts went through the posts. Five by Wihan and one to David Delaney, while Wihan was receiving treatment to a head injury.
Sila Va’Enuku fell foul of the referee after he had given Warriors a last warning and Sila was caught playing on the ground.

On a miserable evening Westcountry Warriors took on Launceston in the Tamar Shield.
The Warriors were out to avenge the last meeting and put out a strong side with both Wihan Neethling and Mike Lewis playing their first matches for a long while. Both survived the 80 minutes and may be ready for the weekend’s clash against Cambridge.
I a match where the whistle was used a lot the Warriors seemed to suffer particularly in the first half as each time they seemed to get within 10 metres of the hosts line a penalty would be awarded against them, much to the pleasure of the Launceston coaching staff.
The score was low in a fixture that has often toped 40 points. Mariano Castany who has joined the club till the end of the season did not make it onto the pitch.
With a penalty in each half kicked by Wihan the Warriors 6 points with Launceston’s 5 coming from a run on the wing and a slip and missed tackle also by Wihan.
Team: Wihan Neethling, Jon Fabian, Arran Cruickshanks, Ross Allen, Darren Ritchie, Daniel Hawkes, Matt Newman, Tim Mathias, Richard Oxley, Mike Hayes, Mike Lewis, Ed King, Frazer Clilverd, Ben Rowntree, Jake Childs Replacements: Mariano Castany, James Owen(used), James Tichias(used), Bryn Jenkins(used), Harry Spencer, David Delaney, Sila Va'Enuku, Andy Williams(used), Gareth Baxter

Warriors played well in the first half and went into the change around 10 – 6 up but did not continue the work in the second half and ended up with a big defeat.
Darran Ritchie's try came from a driving maul. With lack of front row replacements the scrums went uncontested before half time.
New boy Jamie Shove played the last 15 minutes on the wing, he comes from the Ivybridge Academy.

On a bitterly cold January afternoon Westcountry Warriors host a strong Bristol United.
The Warriors have a number of first team and fringe players and they control the first half with two tries for Sila joining the driving maul and could have had a third but for the referee blowing up for in infringement.
The match was watched by most of the rest of the team and some acted as ball boys, a step up from their usual role. Also in attendance but not playing was Luke Arscott who watched the match with brother Luke.
The Warriors went into the change around 14 points to 5 having had the advantage of the blustery wind at their backs in the first half.
The second half Bristol were more in control and pulled back with two tries. Warriors fought back in the last 10 minutes but did not make it across the line.

Newbury used the very strong wind to their advantage in the first half to take the lead 22 - 3 at half time. On the turn around Warriors came back and took the match 39 - 38 a cracking game!
Daniel Hawks was on fine form kicking 4 of the 5 conversions and adding 2 penalties bringing his points total for the match to 14 and season to date to 88 and making him top scorer for Warriors this season so far.
With the catch and drive move proving very successful it netted three tries to Mike Hayes, Frazer Clilverd and Darren Ritchie, who joined the maul to help force the ball over the line.
Jon Fabian picked up a try after he broke through the Newbury defence and Rob Boles after the ball was passed wide.

Warriors come out winners in atrocious conditions that rivalled the rain of the previous weekend against and came back from a half time deficit of 13 -8.
With terrific commitment by both sides Warriors win the match, in the dieing minutes, that was rearranged from September and on a weekend that was the worst weekend this season for injuries of the squad as a whole. With both Props off injured and limited replacements the scrums went un contested part way through the second half.

The match was in doubt up to kick off as major rain an hour before caused problems with the pitch. With the Warriors short of front row players Matthew Skeet was called upon to pull on a Plymouth jersey something he did well scoring twice for the visitors helping them to score 17 points in the first 17 minutes.
The Warriors started with the a strong wind at their backs and went into the lead after Daniel Hawkes kicked ahead and won the race to the line. A rolling maul a few minutes later let Matthew Skeet go over to score a try against his own side.
Westcountry Warriors dominated the first half with another try before 17 minutes were up which was converted by Daniel.
At halftime Brixham made a number of changes and with the wind at their backs were more apart of the game but they had to wait until the last quarter of the match before they got points on the board after an interception deep in the Warriors defence.
Our guest prop scored his second and the Fishermen also scored their second try before the end of the match in appalling conditions.

With the two clubs meeting for the second time in just 8 days Albion fans were expecting another high scoring game. Well if they were they left with that expectation unfulfilled.
London Welsh Druids bought a strong squad with them and made the Warriors work for any points. The Druids had 4 or 5 first team players presumable working their way back to the main squad whereas Warriors were depleted with Sila making his debut at Doncaster, and Mike Lewis and Steve Johns unavailable.
Although the Druids had most of the ball in the first half they did not manage to score any points and allowed Dave Delaney to kick three penalties through lack of discipline.
The last quarter of the match saw Druids dominate the game and ran in two tries to clinch the match. Up until the last try the Warriors were strong but the final score came too late and the gap was just too much for Warriors to make up.
Team: Jon Fabian, Rob Boles, Will Gingwell, Ross Allen, Darren Ritchie, David Delaney, Matt Newman, Mike Hayes, Dean Avery, James Tichias, Bryn Jenkins, Ed King, Ben Sangchi, Ben Rowntree, Frazer Clilverd Replacements: Brian Venables(used), Daniel Hawkes(used)

This was a good match with even teams and played on the pitch in front of the clubhouse.
Richmond had the heavier pack but the Warriors made better use of their pace and possession.
The sides went into the turnaround with Warriors leading 5 20. Richmond started well and quickly scored 7 points from a catch and drive move. This caused Warriors to step up to the mark stopping the Richmond fight back and taking the final score to 12-36.
The whole team played well but the front row of Mike Hayes, Dean Avery and James Tichias played particularly well.

On a still night that was not too cold the short journey up the A38 was worth the trip.
The Warriors captained today by Chris Lowrie make the third win for the weekend and did not allow Exeter United to cross the line. Warriors were just that bit better than the hosts and hence the result was never in doubt.
Sila played well and was at the centre of a number of moves. Francisco suffered from a leg injury and was treated several times on the pitch. Also after Graham Dawe came on to replace James Owen the Warriors turned the next two or three scrums through 90 to gain the put in.
Throughout the match the hosts were dominated in their lineouts as it seemed that either it was taken against the head or the ref blew up for not straight.
A three try win but it could have been more.

A messy match at Polson Bridge with the sound of the whistle coming far too often for many of the crowd and 21 penalty points scored.
Sila was only passed the ball 5 or six times in the match so was unable to make the runs that gave him points on Saturday. In fact the ball was barely passed to the wings either. So Tom Arscott and Darren Ritchie also had little of the ball.
With James Owen going down in the first half with an ankle injury it was Chris Lowrie that lead the side out after the change around and Graham Dawe that took up the hooker role.
With 5 yellow cards shown the Warriors came off worse with cards being awarded to Tim Mathias in the first half Graham Dawe around the 65 minute and Brett Stroud with less than 10 minutes to go.

A late change to the opposition (it was supposed to be London Scottish being entertained by the Warriors today) and windy conditions did not spoil the entertainment for the 100 or so supporters who turned up to see the Warriors outclass their guests from North Devon.
It was not the chance to see the Albion first XV depart for Nottingham that brought some of the supporters out but probably the chance to get a first look at Tongan international Sila Va’enuku.
16 tries in a fast running match with hat tricks for Jake Childs and new boy Sila Va'Enuku playing only half a match.
Team: Steve Johns, Tom Arscott, Sila Va'Enuku, Ross Allen, Darren Ritchie, Daniel Hawkes, Matt Newman, Gareth Evans, Graham Dawe, Mike Hayes, Ed King, Mike Lewis, Frazer Clilverd, Ben Rowntree, Jake Childs Replacements: Bryn Jenkins(used), Brian Venables(used), Rob Boles(used), Ben Sangchi(used), Will Gingwell(used)

A game of two halves, now where have we heard that before, with a strong wind playing a part in the match and with no 1st team players being available due to Albion playing Pertemp Bees at the same time. Tom Arscott seems back to playing on top and fighting to get into the Albion team selection he runs in three tries. Darren Ritchie also fighting for 1st team selection ran in his first of two tries in the sixth minute.
The Warriors built up a healthy lead in the first half with the wind behind them and Park gradually pulled the score back with a couple of break away tries but could not put on enough points to win the game.
Mike Hayes was declared unfit before the match with Dean Avery moving to prop and Tom Ireland coming in at hooker. When Andy Williams was replaced in the 60th minute the scrums became uncontested.
Team: Matt Tichias, Tom Arscott, Will Gingwell, Ross Allen, Darren Ritchie, Daniel Hawkes, Matt Newman, Tom Ireland, Dean Avery, Andy Williams, Ed King, Mike Lewis, Frazer Clilverd, Ben Rowntree, Jake Childs Replacements: Brian Venables(used), Bryn Jenkins(used)

With a turn around from yesterdays fortunes Westcountry Warriors put nine tries on Exeter United.
James Owen too the role as captain and showed the rest of the team how to play by running in 4 tries in a match that was never in doubt. The Warriors played well in both halves scoring the same number of points in the second half as they did in the first. They went in at half time 29 - 7 ahead and came out ready to play and compete.
The match was physical at times with three yellow cards shown, two to Exeter and one to Chris Lowrie. There could have been more shown, but the warriors came out on top in the discipline side of the game as well as the score line.

A tough away match especially after travelling to Otley. Playing away at Redruth is always going to be a difficult fixture.

Westcountry Warriors made the long trip to an evening away match to play the Royal Marines and run in 8 tries. The Marines strip was all white with black numbers, no crest or sponsors to be seen and knee length shorts that had to be seen to be believed.
The match started in drizzly that had stopped by half time and so did the scoring for a while. The Warriors had a number of chances to try out their catch and drive move with good success and Rob Boles scored a hat trick of tries.

Newbury were delayed in their travel by the M4 closing down west bound which delayed the start till 2:30 and meant them starting without their first choice front row.
A disappointing result but since the match was played at the same time as the 1st team Warriors were limited to players with little or no 1st team experience. Tom Arscott, Matt Newman and Andy Williams were also not available due to injuries and Captain Ben Rowntree was taken off early in the 1st half with a leg injury. This gave an early opportunity for Mike Lewis to come on.

Warriors second match in the Tamer Shield and still with a 100% record!
Warriors put out a number of players with 1st team experience against a very young Pirates Development side. Having said that both sides were pleased with the end result and with Warriors entering the Canterbury Shield, Tamer Shield and friendlies and Albion in the expanded National League One there are an awful lot of games still to play.
