Re: 2007/8 Warriors Reports
A tad disappointing I felt.
Ok, so it was the 1st Warriors game of the season but, none-the-less, the whole game seemed to lack flair, conviction, bite, something, and, again, it was hot out there.
Strong pack - All but Roberts [hooker] and Wilson, have played Albion 1st team rugby. Childs [8] had a good game and,as ever, Lowrie.
As did Batten on the wing [mannerisms of Arscott] and Newman was solid. Nat S. [15] was his wiley old experienced self and mentor.
The score was flattering to us, our 2 tries to their 1. But we took penalty kicks [12 pts], whereas they opted [perhaps in the true spirit of the event] to forgo eminently kickable kicks, in favour of moves to try things out close to our line.
I must confess [naughtily I know] to wondering what the young Lydney hooker thought as our Ven Leader came on 3/4 through.
I don't know what he said to the ref at a penalty agin, but it earned 10 yds, a 2nd 10 yds, and, I think, a 3rd, back onto our line.
None-the-less, a sense that the individual abilities are there, ready to be worked into a most effective team.
