Newbury 7 Warriors 41

Warriors travel to Monks Lane on a very nasty day as far as the weather is concerned but dominate the play and come away with a 7 try to one victory.

Newbury  7  Warriors 41

With Mike Denbee back from injury he was placed on the wing in the first half and with the team playing into the wind Mike made the first try when he ran 50 metres before off loading to before off loading to Mike Lewis to complete the move and put first points on the board.

Another man playing out of his regular position was Gareth Evans who played 80 minutes at number 2 and controlled the line out with the help of Mike Lewis under difficult conditions.

Whilst Warriors were playing into the wind they were still able to dominate the open play. Warriors were able to get quick ball when ever they needed it.

Matt Newman ran in the second of the first half tries and the Warriors went into the change around in the lead 0 - 12.

Newbury lost their fly half at half time with a blood injury from which he never returned. This gave Dan Hawkes the opportunity to dominate the open play.

Gareth Evans scored off the back of a driving maul around the blind side in the second half which set the tone for the rest of the team.

With Jake Childs adding himself into the 3/4 line he claimed himself a try which was well deserved with his work around the mauls.

Matt Newman scored his second from a quick tap penalty and the day was rounded off with the captain, Ross Allan, adding his own points to the tally.

The Warriors played really well working hard in attempt to win a chance for an Albion shirt.

The Matt Newman/Dan Hawkes partnership worked well together controlling the contact zone and tactical kicking was good. Place kicking was difficult under the conditions kicking 3 out of 7.

Rory Wyatt-Jones returned to the side after a number of seasons away from Albion playing the last 15 minutes of the match.

Albion will be hoping that they will come away with a similar result on Saturday when they too visit Monks Lane.

Team: Steve Johns, Mike Denbee, Darren Ritchie, Ross Allen, Jamie Shone, Daniel Hawkes, Matt Newman, Tom Hobbs, Gareth Evans, George Davis, Ed King, Mike Lewis, Craig Wilson, Jake Childs, Jamie Tripconey Replacements: Jack Miles(used), Rory Wyatt-Jones(used), Ed Stevens(used)
