Singapore free practice 1 and 2
By Catherine Black
September 27 2008
The inaugural Singapore Grand Prix started on Friday, and also marks the first night race ever in Formula One. Venturing into the unknown with both free practice sessions held under lights saw Scuderia Toro Rosso working on finding the best set up for the weekend as well as assessing the two different tyre compounds.

With rain as ever a threat in Singapore, Scuderia Toro Rosso got to work with finding a set up for unknown territory for the first night race on Sunday night.

The first practice session saw Sebastian Vettel complete 28 laps, with a best time of 1:47.570, which saw him finish the session in 11th place, while Sebastien Bourdais completed 16 laps with a best time of 1:48.097, which saw him finish the session in 14th place.

With only an hour break between the two sessions in order to maximise running under lights, where Sebastian Vettel completed another 33 laps with the best time of 1:47.300 which saw him finish the session in 13th place, while Sebastien Bourdais completed 24 laps with the best time of 1:47.487, which saw him finish the session in 14th place.

Sebastian Vettel:

"Visibility is not a problem. Some places are darker than others and it's good fun. The track is very difficult, but unfortunately the surface is very bumpy which does not make life easy. It is tough and demanding for both car and driver. As for my car, I'm not happy yet as it feels very loose and I don't think we will have an easy time. So tonight we must work hard to improve it and hopefully make a step forward tomorrow."

Sebastien Bourdais:

"There are no worries about running under the lights and I even ran with a lightly smoked visor. There are hardly any shadows and you can see very well. It's a very nice track but unfortunately, the quick parts are the bumpiest and so we are having to run the cars quite high, which obviously reduces performance. Globally the car is not too bad and today we have been trying to find the best set-up and assess the two types of tyre."
