Bedford
By Frank Stormont
March 26 2009
Albion take on third placed Bedford this Saturday with a choice of matches on Sunday. Also Saturday starts the Player of the season voting at Brickfields.

This Weekend

v
Albion v B Blues
Saturday 28 March
K.O. 3 pm
Also
Ladies v Bath KO 2:15
and
Devon v Cornwall @ Okehampton
KO 3pm

As we approach the end of the season Albion will be looking to collect a few more points to make their position in the new Championship safe. None of the remaining matches are going to be easy and the team will have to step up after the 22-9 loss at Old Deer Park.

It had been hoped that the match against Moseley would be played on 18th April but unless we play them after their match against Leeds at Twickenham we will need to play mid week! Moseley and Albion are yet to agree a date and Moseley have put in an appeal to play the match after the end of the season, which is against the rules. So we will just have to wait and see what comes.

My understanding is that if Moseley fail to hold the fixture Albion will credited with the win but will only be awarded 4 points, Moseley however may well be deducted points which may put there position in the Championship in doubt.

Bedford Match

Bedford are flying high winning their last 6 matches including league leaders Leeds.

Bedford have won the last 4 meetings and the last time Albion came out on top was in 2006 at Brickfields when Martin Rice scored two of the 4 tries in a 22 - 8 win. With Martin back in action is this an omen?

With Bedford having a positive of 336 points and Albion with just 3 it will certainly be a tough ask, but every game is winnable.

Ex Albion international James Pritchard has picked up 177 points including 4 tries and sits 4th in the league for both points and kicking points.

Ian Davey and William Twelvetrees both have amassed 15 tries and are equal 2nd in the league.

With more than 70% of their tries scored from the backs we can expect a fast match, Lets hope that we have enough backs on the bench, should we have 4 backs for this match? I know that this is unlikely but you can always hope.

Certainly Tom Jarvis, Ross Allan and Tom Jarvis were playing for their place on Tuesday night against the All Blacks.

Halftime Entertainment.

New for this season the Plympton Rotary Club, together with the Plympton Rotaract Club (junior version of Rotary) and with the DoR's blessing will be (weather permitting) running a charity event at home games from now on.

At half time we will be inviting up to 50 kids a chance to take part in a drop goal competition at the club house end of the pitch.

The cost will be £1 entry and each entrant has just 1 life. The last one standing will win the prize.

50% of the profits will be going to Albion with the other 50% going to Rotary charities - this year both the Plympton Rotary and Rotaract Club's are supporting Ellie's Haven - a charity based down near Looe.

Those of you with kids, please bring them along and encourage them to take part. We will be limiting to the first 50 though - unlike the one we held at the end of last season where we wanted as many as possible.

Book your place on arrival with Darren Hands who will be at the north end (main car park end) of the grandstand. Any steward will be able to point him out.

Best of luck!

Re: Spy in the Camp - Bedford
sorry frank - forgot to post you 'my bit' due to overload of rugby games this week - have the 'ones to lookout for':

Billy Twelvetrees(centre),arguably on of the Blues best players having scored 15 tries, 15 conversions and 11 penalties and only one yellow against his name this season. Ian Davey (wing) who has honours of England under 18 team, and has scored 15 tries. Will Harries (Full back) who has honours of playing for Wales 7’s, and has scored 10 tries. Karl Dickson (scrum half) whos honours are playing for the North of England, and has scored 9 tries. Ollie Dodge (Wing) who has honours of England under 20’s, who has scored 8 tries and has one yellow card. Gregor Gillanders (second row) who has honours of England under 20’s, and has scored 7 tries and 2 yellow cards. Ryan Owen (wing/fullback/centre) who has honours of Wales under 18’s, and has scored 7 tries. Mouritz Botha (second row), whos honours are playing for east midlands, and has scored 6 tries Brendon Burke (fullback) who has honours of the Irish Under 19 sevens, and has scored 2 tries, 1 conversion and 1 penalty and has one yellow card. James Pritchard (fullback/ wing/outside/centre) who has honours of playing for Canada who has scored 4 tried, 28 conversions and 27 penalties. Brad Davies (Fly half/centre), who has honours of playing for Gloucester, and has scored a drop goal. Sacha Harding (Back row) who has honours of playing for England students, has scored 2 tries and has one yellow card. Mike Howard (second row), who has scored 3 tries and has one yellow card. Rory McKay (no 8) who has honours of playing for Scotland 7’s, and has scored 3 tries and has one yellow card. Dan Richmond (Hooker) is the captain of the team and has scored 3 tries. Liam Roberts, (centre) who has honours of playing for Wales under 21’s and 7’s, and has scored 2 tries. Paul Tupai (lock/back row), who has honours of playing for Samoa has scored 3 tries, but has a total of 4 yellow cards against his name. Ian Vass (scrum half/fly half), who did play in the premiership, and has scored one try Sam Walsh (loose head prop), who has picked up a yellow.

CD’s prediction: close one again – think the Blues will take it by 6 points – but Albion may prove me wrong

(Sm129) Don't let anything get in the way of a good game of Rugby
