LEEDS
By Frank Stormont & CD
April 23 2009
The last weekend of the season and we again host to Leeds. Last time it was a draw but what will be the result this time.

This Weekend

v
Albion v Leeds
Saturday 25 April
K.O. 3 pm

Don't forget Moseley on Wednesday Coach only £20
pay at the travel club hut on Saturday or you will get left behind!
<<<Details>>>

Short one this week, as we know all about Leeds, or should I say NATIONAL ONE CHAMPIONS LEEDS

This week sees Leeds play the return match and travel 550 miles to the Fortress. Leeds RUFC is only 16 years old, it was formed in 1992 by a merger of Roundhay and Headingley, they became the Leeds Tykes in 1998 and in 2007 became Leeds Carnegie.

There are quite a few Leeds fans travelling down – so if you find one looking lost – direct them to the nearest bar

Players to look out for

Any player on the pitch not in an Albion shirt. They’re all good, fast and play very well.

CDs’ prediction –
Not doing one. We need a point to avoid relegation, if not relying on Bedford to beat Esher, if not Wednesday a point from Moseley, if not Division 2 is beckoning.
WE KNOW WHERE WE STAND… SO CHEER ON ALBION UNTIL THE FINAL WHISTLE… AND IN THE BAR AFTERWARDS…

Ps.. Still room on the coach for Wednesday – you know it makes sense!!

Some interesting facts about this season

Leeds

Leeds need 100 points to equal most points in a season in level two rugby, the current holders are Northampton Saints who last year accumulated 1321 points.
They need 20 tries to pass Northampton's 1192 last season but have already passed the most conversions with 130. This season they have been the best away supported with on average gaining 161% of the average gate for each team. ( the next best was Bedford who picked up a gate of 116%)

Albion

Over the last two seasons two players have scored three drop goals in a match, both times this was against Albion. Before the travel club coach went to Esher Albion were the worst away supported team in the league. On average we were only picking up an average of 78%

Halftime Entertainment.

New for this season the Plympton Rotary Club, together with the Plympton Rotaract Club (junior version of Rotary) and with the DoR's blessing will be (weather permitting) running a charity event at home games from now on.

At half time we will be inviting up to 50 kids a chance to take part in a drop goal competition at the club house end of the pitch.

The cost will be £1 entry and each entrant has just 1 life. The last one standing will win the prize.

50% of the profits will be going to Albion with the other 50% going to Rotary charities - this year both the Plympton Rotary and Rotaract Club's are supporting Ellie's Haven - a charity based down near Looe.

Those of you with kids, please bring them along and encourage them to take part. We will be limiting to the first 50 though - unlike the one we held at the end of last season where we wanted as many as possible.

Book your place on arrival with Darren Hands who will be at the north end (main car park end) of the grandstand. Any steward will be able to point him out.

Best of luck!

Weather forecast

Current forecast is light rain max daytime temp 12oC with light south westerly winds up to 20mph.

Very good piece - excellent stats! Suspect some of them may be a bit awry (don't recall Juan Gomez, a hulking prop, take a conversion... smiling smiley ) but they really do encapsulate the teams well.

And thanks for the offer of directions - although I suspect most of us will find a watering hole ok (in fog, at night, blindfolded!)

Setting off down your way in ten minutes - turn the sun on please?

Still a Tyke - whatever the name!
