First England cap in 80 years!

England Shirt

Georgie Rozario presented her England winners match shirt from the 2009 RBS 6 Nations to Plymouth Albion’s Chairman, Dr Graham Sterling at Brickfields.

Georgie Rozario presented her England winners match shirt from the 2009 RBS 6 Nations to Plymouth Albion’s Chairman, Dr Graham Sterling at Brickfields. Rozario who was selected for all 5 matches and played in the four winning games bought her total to 12 full caps.

Georgie was pleased with her start against Ireland but felt that saved her best till the last game of the series when she was able to relax and play her natural game.

Rozario became only the 21st serving Albion player to receive a full England cap. The last two internationals were Eddy Richards and Charles Gummer who were both in the winning side against France on 1st April 1929. With 80 years apart one common factor remained with both Richards and Rozario playing at scrumhalf.

One of the more famous Plymouth RFC England Internationals was Jimmy Peters who was made famous by being the first coloured player to play for England in 1906 just over 100 years ago and has a bar named after him at Brickfields. There has been some confusion over two James Peters, one who played for Plymouth RFC whilst the other who played for Devonport Albion before the two clubs were combined.

Graham, who arranged payment for the shirt framing, though The Barden Corporation, said on behalf of Plymouth Albion "It is just massive what Georgie has done. We are immensely proud of what Georgie has achieved and her generous offer to donate her framed RBS 6 Nations England shirt to the club. We will display the shirt in a prominent position for all to see".

England Head Coach Gary Street said: “I was very pleased with Georgie’s progress throughout last season. She provided very good back up when she came off the bench and when she started (against Ireland) she made a good account of herself.”

England are back in training in July as they prepare for a very busy year with the Nations Cup in Canada in August and then three tests against the reigning world champions New Zealand in November the last time the two sides met was in the final of the last World Cup Final England narrowly lost.

With the RBS 6 Nations next spring and the IRB Women’s World Cup in London next August.

“If Georgina is able to maintain her form, or improve then she is in with a good shot of being involved.

Street does not see Rozario playing in the Championship (level two rugby) as a disadvantage for England selection “We have had other players play for England who haven’t been playing Premiership rugby. Selecting players to play for England is about accessing the form of individual players.”

Yes, that's really great. An acknowledgement of her international achievment.

But still need her photo to go next to GoD's in the Cowlin.

Great to see a "girls" team photo up in the clubhouse corridor.

Need on now of Georgie in the Cowlin, where the other internationals are hung.
