Our opponents for Saturday - Coventry r.f.c.

The lads go to Butts Park again this Saturday for something of a crunch match in what could have a bearing on the final league table come 28th. April. I know it's only a third of the way through the season but they say that after about six games you have a good idea as to how you will finish up in the league. And on Coventry's web site they mention the fact that Saturday will be the start of five important games for them to be in a strong position by Christmas with the following fixtures to be played: Albion in 3rd position. (h), Rosslyn Park 11th. (a), Ampthill 4th. (h), D.M.P. 2nd. (a) and Moseley 7th. (a) and meanwhile Albions fixtures for the same period are: Coventry 1st. (a), Hull 13th. (h), Moseley 7th. (a), Old Albanian 14th. (h) and Esher 10th. (a). Also the last five games up to the 28th. April are as follows : For Coventry, Albion 3rd. (a), Rosslyn 11th. (h), Ampthill 4th. (a), D.M.P. 2nd. (h) and Hull 13th. (h) while for Albion it is Coventry 1st. (h), hull 13th. (a), Moseley 7th. (h), Old Albanian 14th. (a), Blackheath 5th. (h). with both sets of fixtures being almost a mirror image for the next five games and the last five. Interesting to see if those positions change much during that time.

Both clubs have a similar history over the years, for Coventry it was during the 1920's as it was for Albion with both clubs having a handfull of internationals in their squads. In addition Coventry had another purple patchafter WW2 when a number of their squad were working in the factories in the war effort and therefore they stayed in the area and were available when the war finished going on to a record of 72 successive wins. But more of that at a later date perhaps.

As for the stats, both clubs have similar numbers of tries against at home with Coventry on 6 and Albion on 7, only we are away this time so we need to on our A game and there the similarities finish, on the card front we trail Coventry by 3 cards to 12 so we need a nil card game as well.

On the "Rolling Maul" web site the forecast for the result is in favour of Coventry again by 20 - 3, but that is not a given ?

I'm sure that Eoghan Grace will have a point to prove to his old club and bring home the points.

A good article, should be a close game hopefully with Albion snatching the points.
