Premiership 2
Albion Ladies 38 Rosslyn Park 12
Albion Ladies secured a fourth place finish in Premiership 2 as they ran in six tries to defeat Rosslyn Park Ladies at The Brickfields in their final league match of this season.
Albion therefore extracted full revenge for their earlier 20-8 defeat away to Park in the reverse fixture last October, thoroughly enjoying themselves in the relative sunshine.
Although the bigger Park forwards made life difficult for Albion early on, once Albion used their running game to move the Park forwards around at every opportunity, fitness took its’ expected toll.
Centre Anna Sheppard was the star of the show, scoring three tries with winger Jo Day notching a brace and centre Charlotte Boggis also touching down, full back Nancy Stone weighing in with four conversions.
As far as Park were concerned, they managed two tries through scrum half Kate Landells and centre Jo Searle with Ulrika Anderson-Hall kicking one conversion.
“It’s a great way to end the season and shows how far we have come, to have reversed a 20-8 away defeat to a 38-12 home win,” said Albion assistant coach Tristan Forster.
Perhaps the only downside was the size of the crowd. As normal, just a few family and friends.
As far as I know, no other side in Plymouth – IN ANY TEAM SPORT – can field as many as seven or eight internationals and a host of divisional players in their side at the same time, so why don’t you lot come and watch them from time to time? Discuss…….
To help you - admission is always free, the clubhouse is always open and the side is always around to talk to people after the game – and oh yes – they do not get paid a penny – they pay subs to play (even the coaching staff). There’s dedication for you. Old style rugby, not the over-hyped (in some cases overpaid) stuff you see from some men’s sides.
One suspects that many of you still harbour the old opinions that women should not/cannot play rugby – WRONG – they play exactly the same rules and just as intensely, if not more so, than men.
Over to you…… The fixture list for next season will be published as soon as is possible….
