Kimi Raikkonen has admitted he had issues finding the proper motivation to compete at his best during the 2008 Formula 1 World Championship. Raikkonen was often criticised for an apparent lack of interest in defending his title and his distant third place in the World Championship seemed to reinforce this notion:

"When there are no opportunities to overtake or to improve your position it is definitely not very interesting. But that is the way it is. When you know you're fighting for just P3 you simply don't always have the same speed for the whole race as you would normally have."
