Notice for Connacht talent
By Rob Murphy @ Knockon.ie
June 4 2010
A selection of Connacht talent will be putting on the green of Ireland this weekend adding to the positive vibes coming out of the province in the past few months. Rob Murphy at Knockon.ie reports....

John Muldoon (pic) and Sean Cronin are heading down-under this summer and that news was augmented somewhat yesterday when Gavin Duffy was given a starting role for Ireland’s clash with the Barbarians this Friday in Limerick alongside the two traveling squad members.

Then on Saturday night in the Sante Fe city of Rosario – which is three and a half hours north east of Buenos Aires – Eoin Griffin and Tiernan O’Halloran will start for the Irish Under 20 World Cup squad against France.

The two worked their way into the starting line up over the course of the six nations and are now established first choice members of an exciting back line. The game is live on Setanta on Saturday evening at 5pm.

But back to Friday again where Duffy will start at 13 rather than his natural full back roll where he has been in superb form for Connacht.

Rob Kearney has that position and many will feel that Duffy is unlucky not to be traveling with Kearney to the southern Hemisphere as on form, he is the clear choice for back up.

For Muldoon and Cronin the game will be an important chance to shine and stake a claim for a place in the side that faces the Maroi’s in game two. While first test places are not guaranteed either, their best hope of exposure seems to be in the Hamilton game. .

With Earls ruled out Duffy will now take his rightful place on the tour down under. Good Luck to the Connacht lads today and for the upcoming weeks.

Absolutely...

I'm not one to wish injury on any player (well most of the time), but a tight hamstring on Kearney might be a wonderful opportunity for Gav...(Sm76)

On this point its all helping build momentum for Connacht. Players getting international recognition, exposure to better standard of rugby, exposure to a wider audience, armchair supporter sees that there is some good players in Connacht may make a trip to the Sportsground, the younger players see local players making the Irish setup while playing with Connacht giving them belief that they don't have to leave Connacht to get international recognition or in the case of young players in other provinces that Connacht can provide them with the pathway to the national side.

I agree we've always had one if we're lucky but to have three in was incredible. That they all made a positive impression is even better this can only be a positive for Connacht

Ireland edged out 25-22 in the u20 this evening. Dodgy penalty given against Dominic Ryan near the end cost them the draw. Eoin Griffin started, Tiernan O'Halloran was down to start but I tuned in late and it appeared that it was Hudson at 14 so presume he must have picked up a knock. Dissapointing as the game was there to be won.

That penalty against Ryan was a dodgy one alright. Rabeni's tackles last night for the Barbarians were a good 6 inches higher and they weren't called. Still though, it was a very sloppy kick by Meade out on the full

Re: Notice for Connacht talent
it was a nothing penalty. I thought the ref had a good game overall but that last one was dodgy as hell. Griffin played well though; defensively he was strong against two big guys in the french centre.

Re: Notice for Connacht talent
Caught the last quarter of the U-20's and we lost because of some appalling decision making. Reid in particular apart from the kick out on the full that led to France's try seemed to lack any composure. And how the second row ended up carrying right beside the touchline when we needed a penalty or drop goal to level scores with seconds to go was absolutely criminal.....
