League Is Back At Wembley - Pubs - Directions ect.
By leedsrhinos.biz August 20 2007
Rugby League is back at home on Saturday - it's the return of Wembley Stadium. We all know Leeds aren't there but we know loads of Rhinos fans will still be making their way down to the capital to support Catalan so we have put together a quick guide including directions, pubs and food.

The Carnegie Challenge Cup Final Guide

Wembley 2007

So Rugby League is back at its national home (no, not Headingley) in the new state-of-the-art Wembley Stadium. Here are some directions and pub guides to keep you entertained throughout the weekend.

Just before we start I'll just remind you that you can print this handy guide off and take it with you to the capital.

Directions:

Nearest tube stationsBy London Underground:
The nearest underground stations to Wembley Stadium are Wembley Park and Wembley Central, both are within walking distance to the stadium which is heavily signposted but just follow all the different rugby league shirts in front of you! For the best view of the stadium arriving at Wembley Park is recommended. The newly renovated Wembley Park serves the Jubalee and Metropolitan lines. Wembley Central serves the Bakerloo line.

Nearest train stationsBy Rail:
Any London station with an underground connection can be used to get to the stadium via the underground. It's probably best that you use the underground to get to the stadium. There is also the Wembley Stadium station that is located behind the station giving connections to the midlands and central London.

By Road:
Just to warn you - do not drive to Wembley Stadium. London has bad enough traffic as it is so you can imagine the traffic with 90,000 rugby league fans trying to get to a national stadium. The best advice is to pay a bit extra and leave your car outside your hotel for the day of the CC final and walk or catch the bus to your nearest tube station. I don't know enough of London to tell you what lines to go on so just collect a pocket tube map and head down to Wembley Park.

But if you want to brave the heavily conjested and confusing roads of London....

The Challenge Cup final venue is situated close to the North Circular Road (A406), which provides easy access from four adjacent motorways - The M1, M4, M40 and M25. It also links with the A1 and A40 and southbound routes via the South Circular. I'm already confused.

Parking:
Another downside is that site parking is only available for 6,000 cars and coaches. The logic is they will probably charge a tenner and your going to be very lucky to grab a space with a sell out Wembley.

That's the directions sorted. But just to be on the safe side rob your mates tom tom.

If you arrive on the Friday evening please help out NL2 side London Skolars by attending there game (obviously on the Friday to try and get a few extra hundred fans there due to the final). The game is Skolars V York. 7th V 6th. Bound to be a cracker. For tickets and directions to their ground visit http://www.skolars.com

Now for the pubs. I'm using a trusty pub website here so the info should be correct. The nearest pub to the ground is Mannions. Only 0.1 miles from Wembley Stadium railway station (apparently round the back of the stadium) so technically, this should be the closest pub to the stadium. 313 Harrow Rd, Wembley, Middlesex, HA9 6BA.

Now for food on matchday. £8.99 for a burger.... £3 for a hot chocolatte... and you don't want to know how much for a beer inside the ground. So before the game we suggest to go to the McDonalds (or some chippy) - which if I am correct is across the road from the stadium car park in the retail park. It's unlikely that there wont be some sort of fast-food place in that retail park. Don't bother buying your lunch in the ground. Just get a sandwhich from the Sainsbury's down the road and save your money for beer!

So that's it. Enjoy your weekend down at Wembley!
