Brian Noble
The Rhinos are still without 3 World class players: JJB and Danny McGuire are both out after not recovering from their knocks that they picked against Saints last week. Buchanan left the field of play after only 2 minutes last week, and although he did return, Bluey must have some doubts. Also, Toopi is still out from the World Club Challenge after dislocating his shoulder. If we're to be correct, he should be returning within the next 3 weeks.
With these injuries it gives the young lads such as Burgess, Worral, Kaye and Hall, all a chance to play in the 1st team, and with the football they have been coming up with, they deserve every second they play on that Headingley pitch.
Whilst we are talking about Leeds' injuries, lets talk about Wigan's. Although Trent Barrett returns for the Warriors on Saturday, Noble is still missing Hock who is suffering from a hand injury, Pryce who is having problems with his foot and Prescott who has ligament trouble.
McGuire's big mate Richie Mathers makes his first return back to the Headingley Carnegie after he was full back for the Rhinos until 2006, and Mark Calderwood makes a re-appearance too. Although this is not going to be his first back in Leeds, he will be hoping to have a better game than the previous clash when he faced the Rhinos in the Grand Final eliminator where he and his team mates failed to make the Grand Final a Saints Wigan derby.
The 2 Leuluai's make it a family affair when they face each other and it will be intresting to watch Fielden and Peacock face up to each other.
Even though the Wigan Warriors had the better of the Rhinos last season, this game surely, in the end, is only going to go 1 way. Don't expect it to be a 1 sided affair though becuase the team from over the Pennines have plenty of match winners such as Trent Barrett at number 6. Aswell as this, the ex-Rhinos players, especially Mathers on his first return, will want to perform in front of their old fans. The Leeds camp must be buzzing. Wins over Bradford, Hull and Saints, all started off by the nilling of the Harlequins must of put a spring in the players step. The youngsters have been superb - it shows the depth the current Leeds outfit, and the determination the young lads that have been brought up through our own system have, as we have hardly missed any of the players who have been injured.
leedsrhinos.biz Match Prediction: Leeds Rhinos 24 Wigan Warriors 10.
The weather for tommorow is expected to stay dry although there is a chance of some rain or wintery showers. If you are a Wigan supporter, it's probably best to bring a brolly as the away end (Western Terrace) is not covered.
We hope to see you at the game!
