Rhinos skipper, Sinfield
Leeds Rhinos skipper Kevin Sinfield was due to have a scan yesterday, although the details have not yet been released. But head coach Brian McClennan is confident that the captain will be out for too long.
Sinfield was taken off the field of play late in the Leeds Wigan clash at the JJB Stadium, when the Rhinos got defeated by one point: 23-22.
The question that many fans are asking themselves is that if Sinfield was still on the pitch, would he of kicked that last minute penalty from forty metres out, which would not of only added two points on the scoreboard, but the much needed two points in the engage Super League table, which would of kept the Rhinos at the top of the table.
Fans were already preparing themselves for a period without Sinfield, after the official club website reported that it was some type of medial ligament strain, but Brian McClennan is optimistic that the rehabilitation will be shorter.
He came in on Saturday, he pulled up reasonably well and we were pretty happy with him," said Brian McClennan.
"He's going to get a scan today and we'll know a lot more after that.
"It is nothing major. It is a minor knee injury – a medial strain or cartilage – but we will know more when we get the MRI."
McClennan also pointed out; "We get concerned when any of our players get injured. It is not the end of the world, he is a consummate professional and will do everything right.
"Our medical staff are excellent and Kevin is going to get all the best advice and care. I don't think he's going to be out for too long."
In other injury news, centre Clinton Toopi is a possibility for this Friday’s meeting the Huddersfield Giants at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium - he hasn’t played for Leeds since February 29th...the night the Rhinos were crowned World Club Champions.
Carl Ablett is too hoping to return after his ankle problems whilst Ian Kirke still has a few more weeks on the sidelines.
Full match coverage of the Leeds Rhinos v Huddersfield Giants at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium will be available on leedsrhinos.biz, including the nineteen man squads which are due to be released tomorrow, a match report and the full post match press conference from Brian McClennan, along with exclusive player interviews.
