ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED
vs Bradford Bulls- Friday 8th August 2008.
Super League Round 24
Headingley Carnegie; Leeds
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you pleased with the way you toughed that one out?
Yes, I am really pleased with the second half and that is the best that we have played in a while. Bradford were pretty good and they won the battle for territory and were playing really well. Our systems in defences were working very well, pushing out and it took a try from a kick. It was a real step in the right direction for us tonight.
It started off pretty badly; how is Scott Donald?
He has popped a rib cartridge and won’t be feeling very well. He won’t be helping out with the little one now.
How did Donald get the injury?
I am not sure. He might have twisted awkwardly when he caught the ball but we’ll have to assess it.
How long is he likely to be out for?
I think it is about 3 to 4 weeks for that injury but we will have to see.
Did you have a view of the fight?
I didn’t really see it because where I sit there is a big pole in front of me.
Are you pleased with how they handled the disruption?
Yes very pleased because we had Rob Burrow coming off as well and these things happen. Jordan Tansey did a lot of good things when he came on and made some hard runs. He handled it well. All the subs made a difference when they went on. Three of them went on and got trys. It’s a help when subs can go on and give energy to the side.
Are you as pleased with a gusty performance rather than simply running over the opposition?
Well it goes down to the quality of opposition. If we had played like that in some games that we have lost then we would have won them. I think that is the best I have seen Bradford in a while and they were good, getting some momentum, playing direct and marching up the field. They were hard to handle and our guys were hitting them hard with venom in the tackling and it had to be. If we didn’t have the right attitude in the second half then we wouldn’t have so I’m really pleased and if we carry on like that then we will be much better for it.
Would you say you’ve got your ‘mojo’ back?
Definitely yes. Not in the first half because we were ordinary but definitely in the second half we did.
Steve McNamara picked out Jamie Peacock as the outstanding player; would you agree with that?
Yes, he was. He has been great for us this year. He is the GB captain because he is inspirational and I thought Keith Senior bounced back into form. Matt Diskin out of dummy half was superb and Lee Smith was good. It was a good effort especially in the second half from everyone.
