Exeter Chiefs and Doncaster Knights went into this game with identical results and only 1 bonus point separating them. Although Doncaster showed 'flashes' of the form which had taken them to 2nd place in ND1 they were unable to break the Chiefs defence or prevent them from scoring 4 tries.

Knights Blown Away

Exeter Chiefs 26 Doncaster Knights 8

Doncaster Knights challenge was blown away, not by the very strong winds that buffeted Sandy Park but the determination of the Exeter Chiefs side.  The Exeter pitch showed no sign of the torrential rain which had poured onto it in the previous two days, which is testament to the constructors and the excellent work of the Chiefs groundstaff's.  Things have really changed since the old County Ground days when there would have been serious doubts as to whether the game would be played.  If it had been I'm sure we'd have had difficulty sorting out which side was which!

This moves the Chiefs into 2nd place, 4 points ahead of Doncaster and 7 behind League leaders Northampton Saints, who's match against the Cornish All Blacks was postponed.

The Chiefs performance demostrtaed their mean defence and skill in attack with forwards and backs combining well.  The only area which caused some concern was the line-out, which has been one of the Chiefs strengths this season.  Having said that the forwards showed complete dominance in the scrum, with the front row causing Doncaster all sorts of problems.

Sam Blythe picked up another try to add to the 2 he scored last week and take his tally to 6 for the season.  Ritchie Baxter who had his usual storming game also scored a  typical 'Baxter' try and the tireless Andy Miller also crossed for one.  Not that the backs didn't have their chances with both Sean Marsden and Josh Drauniniu (pronounced Drown In You) putting a foot in touch.  Jason Luff was put in for his 11th try of the season by Junior Fatialofa who powered his way through the Knights defence on several occassions.

The crowd of 4001 really enjoyed todays performance and the chant of 'Oggy Oggy Oggy - Chiefs Chiefs Chiefs' has become a regular feature and one much appreciated by the team.

So it's onwards and upwards for the Chiefs who are away at Sedgley Park Tigers next Saturday.

Come On You Chiefs.....Chiefs.....Chiefs.....
