Match Review

v
Moseley
Saturday January 5th

When I told my son that I was writing the match review he asked why I had not bought a note pad - he may have had a point.
The day did not start that well, arriving early expecting to see the video of last weeks Rotherham match I found the Plymouth match on the screen - a video nasty if ever there was one. After that the sky turned dark - bad omens? Then Mr Baxter Senior moved through the members bar wishing everyone a "Happy new year" - which proves that he is a really nice man (unless you are a referee!), did this mean that it was going to be a good day?
So to the match, a brilliant start, an Andy Miller try after two minutes, and then 18 minutes later the first of Jason Luff's hat trick of tries. I though that we were in control for most of the first half. Moseley's prop(?) being hunted down to prevent a breakaway try. We should have had at least one more try before the break but it was not to be. In part this was caused by Mr Kitt and his linesmen, in my opinion he did not have a good day e.g. he looked at several blatant off sides and said nothing???
I thought Josh's tackle on their winger (?) was neat - if you weren’t there , he tried to dummy Josh and ended up running straight into him (and came off second best). Luffy to seemed keen to get in on the action and was popping up all over the place.
Not a good start to the second half with Tom Johnson being stretchered off, let's hope that he is ok. A few minutes after an 8-10 minute delay, Jason got his second and the gap opened. 10 minutes later on. 68 minutes. Moseley pulled a (converted) try back, but on 74 minutes Luffy got his third and the bonus point into the bargain. Not sure who provided the final pass, but it was a generous one, whoever it was did not get "white line fever"
Many substitutions then occurred, including Yappy coming on, and immediately (I think) he kicked across field to Yappy who passed it to Sean Marsden to score. Yappy got the conversion, to make it a good day for the kickers with Danny Gray getting all four of his conversion attempts over.
The final Moseley try was unfortunate but no more than that, the ref making some strange decisions until the final whistle.
Just before the end, the Lanson score was announced over the tannoy, they had beaten Rotherham 10 -7. I have since discovered that a certain Dave Simms scored the winning try, a very good day has now got even better.
The man of the match was announced as being James Hanks, from where I was sitting (high up on the half way line) this was not an obvious choice but who am I to comment (I would have given it to Luffy).
I will finish with some stats:
Jason Luff – 15 tries, one every 91 minutes that he is on the pitch
Josh Drauniniu – 14 tries. one every 90 minutes that he is on the pitch
Pretty good eh?
