Preview - Chiefs V Pertemps Bees
Actually it’s a bit of review as well and a rant.
Chiefs last 5 home Games (League and Cup) – WWWWW
Bees last 5 away Games (League and Cup) – LLWLL
Chiefs last 5 games (League and Cup) – WWWLW
Bees last 5 games (League and Cup) – LWLLL
Lying at the bottom of the table the Bees should be easy pickings for the Chiefs. In their last five away games the Bees have scored an average of 11 points per game. They have only conceded an average of 15 points but this has been against teams mainly from the lower half of the league. Similar stats for the Chiefs last home games show an average of 30 points for with 12 against.
So 30 – 11 to the Chiefs?
This week I expect that videos of recent Bees games will be analysed as will yesterdays result. Judging from Pete Drewett’s after match comments aired on Radio Devon, the team will be feeling pleased with themselves. For what it’s worth I thought that there were several plusses: Stephen Ward and Gary Kingdom to name just two, along with the fact that we scored in each half. I also thought that there was a big minus: we seemed to switch off for periods, a neighbour who was there termed it “Sunday afternoon rugby” and I agree with Nigel Walrond’s comments in today’s Sunday Independent, “Exeter squandered several other chances to score tries, with dropped passes and wrong options thwarting their efforts..”
At 6 tries to 1 in a cup match perhaps I am being unfair, there were no bonus points on offer but there weren’t at last nights Nottingham v CABs game and Nottingham still managed to score 71 points, and the last time that Esher went on the road they shipped 70 points to the Pirates. Did Nottingham want it more than we did? Did the Pirates want it more than we did? The talk is that we are now getting ready for next season, if this is true then please can we get a bit more ruthless?
So back to the Bees match, if we do not go to sleep, 40+ points is achievable. I mean no disrespect to the Bees who have put in some good performances this season such as their 22-20 home victory over Doncaster and their narrow home defeat to Nottingham, but we are at home, we are second in the league and they are bottom – just do it lads – please!
