Match preview Bedford v Exeter Chiefs (2)

Chiefs
By Miss Chief September 24 2008
Miss Chief supplies her view of saturdays away fixture for Exeter Chiefs. One of our regular scribes supplies her thoughts on what is traditionally one of the toughest games for Exeter Chiefs. The Chiefs will have a good following on saturday all of whom will be hoping for them to carry their form from the Moseley match into this game.
Bedford Blues V Exeter ChiefsSaturday 27th September 3pmGoldington Road Saturday sees the Chiefs head off to Bedford in an attempt to maintain the winning streak they have started since their loss to Leeds earlier this month.  They must have had many a flashback of their last league visit to Goldington Road when many would say they bungled their chances of promotion by losing 14-12 to a team they probably should have beaten.  That game was riddled with errors, visits to the sin bin for both Mark Fatialofa and John Andress , only to be won in the dying  minutes with a drop goal.  Here’s hoping it’s Steeno’s boot that racks up the points this weekend.  Bedford head into this match in the enviable top of the league position which they have achieved by beating Manchester, Rotherham, Newbury and London Welsh so far this season.  They have secured maximum points on each occasion other than their latest match against London Welsh.   They have  so far this season scored 24 tries 6 of which where touched down by Billy Twelvetrees (Centre) who is a product of  Leicester Tigers academy and a further 4 have been scored by Ian Davey (wing) who was signed to the Blues this year from Bath Academy.  Balance that with the 20 tries the Chiefs have secured so far this season  including 4 by Josh Drauniniu , 3 by Sean Marsden and two a piece by Kev Barrett and Matt Jess and tries scored are looking pretty even. There’s not much in it defensively either on paper with Bedford having 5 tries against and  Chiefs 6 although the calibre of the teams played may cast doubt on those statistics.

Bedford have recruited well for this season with both Tupai and Vass having signed and Hoy and Harries on loan from the Saints and Gillanders, Dodge and  Boulton joining from Leicester Tigers.  Last year they were not a team to be taken lightly and this year have really demonstrated their ability to fight to the last and win.  At the time of writing this the Chiefs team hasn’t yet been released but I’m under no false illusion that nothing but the ’best’ team available for selection should be sent forth to Bedford to set the record straight.

A bonus point win this weekend would be a dream come true for the guys and would strengthen  our position at the top end of the table making promotion dreams a not so distant prospect but we cannot afford to leave Goldington Road without any points.  We must hope there is no repeat of the discipline problems seen here in January.  We must hope the final point scoring manoeuvre is by the Chiefs and finally that the visitors score on the scoreboard exceeds that of the home team.  ………CHIEFS CHIEFS CHIEFS!

OK could anyone going on the bus please pen a few lines about the game?
It doesn't have to cover the game in details, we get that on the Offy Site. Just some thoughts on how the team played, individual performance, atmosphere, traffic hold-ups, whatever you like. I'm looking for a fans view of things, that's why I call them Reviews not Reports.(Sm106)
