Moorsman

BBC radio Devon covered the whole match with Nigel Walrond being ably supported by John Lockyer. Listening to a close fought rugby match online is a not for the feint hearted even if matches betwen the Chiefs and Bedford at Goldington Road are expected to be close.

Match Review

Bedford 23 Exeter Chiefs 26

Being unable to travel to many away games the online coverage from BBC radio Devon is very welcome.  However I may need to give it up for health reasons.  The last two games I've listened to were yesterdays match and the end of season game which cemented 2nd place.  Both involved the Chiefs coming from behind and ended with virtually the last play of the game.

It's difficult to visualise a match but the commentary and background noise from supporters help bring it alive.  Bedford supporters were giving their side plenty of encouragement with "Bedford, Bedford, Bedford" and "Come on you Blues" but the Chiefs fans were clearly audible with 'The Oggy Man' leading with gusto.

Some supporter views:-

"What a game! still thought we"d do it even at half time.We did"nt start fast enough but they certainly did!BY the end I thought we deserved to win by just a few more but we made too many errors, but the real winners were the away support who were FANSTASTIC what atmosphere!!!!!anyone who did"nt go missed out" - TEE HEE HEE

"The away support is certainly building and yesterday was a great day out, although like others my throat is a little sore this morning!
Must also say the Bedford fans were great and they have a good young side who will cause other teams problems especially on the slopes of Goldington Road.
Well done to the Oggyman and his travelling tribe. Roll on next week" - Rugby Chief

""Have to agree with all thats been said here so far.Had an absolutly brilliant time on the coach and in the ground.Didnt stop shouting all match! It felt like we really got behind the team and spurred them on to the win.We must be doing something right as the away Tribe, when John Baxter comes across after the match to tell us all we could be heard in the Grandstand!!
Thanx to all the away Tribe for making it such a great day out.I haven't been doing it long but am really looking forward to the next away game.
Maybe by then,we'll have perfected the new chant? !!!" - Fishfacen

OK, now to the serious point behind this Review - The Tribe needs more writers, and volunteers to produce Previews and Reviews for each match.  The site is getting more and more coverage (we topped 250,000 hits this month!) but new stories are it's life-blood.  Without them it will go AWOL at times.  If you don't want this to happen get writing and let Moorsman know which games you can help with.

Here's a link to find out which fixtures need covering....

Re: View from a non-travelling supporter
Do you need a London Welsh preview? If so, this BRISTOL supporter will step into the breach to help you out.

Shame on you all that are so free with your opinions on here and happy to hold your own court, show your altruistic qualities in sponsoring a player, some of you portray the "I am a better supporter that thou" attitude - but not prepared to put something together to help Moorsman out. These sites do take a lot of work and Moorsman needs help (and that is not a sleight at him - it is just the case throughout SportNetwork) so surely the least you can all do is pull together and sort something out.

As explained, I am a Bristol supporter based nearer to Exeter and love the beautiful game. I don't mind doing my bit and helping out despite not being an Exeter supporter - but it should not be like this. Pull your fingers out and put in some effort. After all, USE IT OR LOSE IT!

Thanks for the offer OEJ. I hope I don't have to take you up on it and someone from The Tribe will volunteer?

Hi Moorsman,

Writing this from my work laptop so not signed in. You know you have an open offer from me for reports (all home games and some away) and use of any Chiefs photos - just ask.

Once again OEJ you are on the offensive. I know many people like your reports (well done) and you have a skill for recording events blow by blow, but for me, probably because they are impartial and documentary, they are dull. that isn't the same as a match report by a supporter, for supporters.

Having said that everyone, he's right, get your digits out of your butts and do your bit.

Re: View from a non-travelling supporter
You are quite correct GJ. I certainly did go on the offensive in a deliberate attempt to shame the many posters on this site into making an effort to contribute. These sites do take a lot of work although a guarantee of a preview and a review each week is more than enough to keep the site alive throughout the season. Things are a little harder during the close season although there are things that can be put together on a weekly basis that would help. Many posters do not realise that these articles are needed and the message board alone is not enough to ensutre the site remains active.

My visits to Sandy Park are purely to watch the beautiful game of rugby and I do not intend to play the Bristol against Exeter card - after all we are all supporters (despite supporting Bristol being as painful as pulling teeth at the moment!). I will continue to produce a report from a neutral perspective for the games I manage to get to which will be posted on my own blog. If Moorsman wishes to continue using them here (in addition to the supporters review) then he is more than welcome. I understand your point about the difference between a report and a review. Thus, my offer is only to commit to helping with previews - with London Welsh being a club I had aspirations to play for hence I could confidently cobble something together. I leave it up to the reader to either read my report or to move on - after all I have no idea who reads them and who does not! No loss to me.

Back to the point in hand. How many people are there in the Tribe? More than the 8 names on the list (9 including GJ's offer above) that have commited to putting something together. Shame on you!

*add ironic smiley here.

I'll do previews for the two away matches in April.

I don't do anything until after Feb due to work load and don't review anything - by that time it's too late and I am too full of sour grapes to be objective (unless we've won as is usually the case!)
