Matt Jess 14
Sean Marsden 13
Josh Dranuinu 12
The above are clearly excellent achievements and at the time of writing Matt Jess is joint top scorer in the division, with Ian Davey (Bedford) and Sean is joint second with David Jackson (Nottingham).
I thought that it might be interesting to look at who is the most efficient in terms of tries scored per minute on the pitch. If my maths is correct then the running order changes slightly:
Matt Jess has scored a try every 72 minutes
Josh Dranuinu every 78 minutes
Sean Marsden every86 minutes.
Again really good stats', but these guys are not the most efficient as there are three players who have better averages.
Coming in at number 3 is Ben Breeze with his three tries being scored during 184 minutes = 61 minutes average.
At number 2 is Paul McKenzie, with 7 tries and also on 61 minutes (he is slightly more efficient when you start to throw in a few decimal places!)
But at number 1 we have a forward !, no not Chris Budgen, he is at number 9 with an average of 133 minutes. Our most deadly player is Simon Alcott with one try and 45 minutes of play. I suppose that this could be considered to be lies, damn lies and statistics!
For the record, one place below Sean Marsden is Chris Bentley (98 minutes) and below him is Emyr Lewis (113 minutes).
In terms of most points scored, then with his haul of 20 points today, Gareth Steenson has 165 and this places in first place in the division, just ahead of Jamie Lennard of Doncaster. I know that rugby is a team game so this is just for interest.
In terms of kicking accuracy, Steenson's 6 out of 7 will help up his kicking percentage. At the start of play he was not in the Rugby Times top five for the division. Interestingly Leeds have three; di Bernado, Strange and Brooks. Thought for the day - Accurate kickers can win tight matches - the season would be different for us if one of Steenson's three goal attempts had gone over in the home match against Leeds. Sensitive souls please note I am not having a go at Steenson, merely stating a fact.
