The scoreboard never lies .. or does it?

Nineteen tries, ten of which were converted to one penalty which sadly for Preston hit an upright, it was one way traffic at Sandy Park,as the Chiefs kicked off thier cup campaign in style.

Well I only knew at half time that I would be writing this and the official site already has the match report up on it so I will be brief.

The day was good one:

  • The weather held out, at least it was dry for the game but the wind did pick up steadily in the second half.

  • The chicken curry tasted good (and the lasagne looked good)

  • My wife's school (Marpool from Exmouth) won the tag rugby competition

  • Dan Thouy's try is worthy of a mention, a brilliant dash of over half the field, with just enough gas to take him into the corner.

Man of the Match Dan Tuohy takes cleanly..

  • A “well done” to Preston – they did not stop or hand their heads. The occasional bouts of handbags were testament to their fire. “Respect” to the Preston player that had a go at Chris Budgen in the first half, I am not sure if Chris got his own back later on. It was a shame that the ref yellowed one of their players, not necessary I think.

But hit the woodwork with their only attempt...

  • The Grasshoppers fans get on shouting, it is just a pity that “hop...pers, hop..pers” sounds like the Pirates chant!

  • The Friend's try sponsorship competition will have benefited today! But I did not factor in a 100+ game to my predictions for the number of tries scored over a season!

The biggest plus for me was that the lads played like Northampton .. they did not stop or let up. They were ruthless as they need to be if they want promotion. The last 20 minutes of the Bedford game were hard to watch, this helped. I would like to think that PD had emphasized the need to play for 80 minutes, but that's only a surmise on my part. Either way well done Exeter, I had not seen a 100+ game before , but I have now, “thanks”.

Oh' why my comment about the scoreboard lying?... it does not have a 100 column and so the match finished 15 – 0!

it was no-score at 26 minutes in the second half!!
