SEDGLEY PARK TIGERS

V

EXETER CHIEFS

24/01/2009 - 2.30PM

With Sedgley park 17 points off safety not many people would think they would win this one and straight from the start Sedgley kicked off straight into touch scrum halfway line right from the scrum couple passes out wide to Matt Jess TRY with about a minute gone could this be another high score for the Chiefs just like the home game!

5-0

Conversion missed but according to the announcer and scoreboard he didn’t that just set the tone for the rest of the game with poor performance and mistakes by both teams, referees and touch judges,

2ND TRY Lineout to Chiefs which Sedgley stole from the ruck but illegally according to the ref, Chiefs went for scum Tom Johnson broke off and over the line; Conversion missed again 10-0 to chiefs.

Sedgley park then began to play but a combination of good defence by Chiefs and poor handling by sedgley park allowed Chiefs to clear into Sedgleys half crossing by Sedgley players giving Danny Grey and chance for 3 points 1st successful kick of the afternoon for Danny.

Sedgeley kicked off Chiefs gave a penalty away Sedgley went for touch and from the lineout Chiefs were awarded a penalty which was reversed by the ref who sin binned John Andress the a few minutes later Kevin Barrett joined him. Chiefs playing with 13 men until halftime Sedgley worked hard but again knock ons and handling errors were unable to cross the try line, then it was Sedgleys turn to have a man sin binned from the scrum Chiefs scored in the final move of the half 3rd TRY scored by Tom Hayes

18-0 Half Time

2nd Half

Back to full strength for 2nd half moved through the phases from the start 4th TRY scored by Paul McKenzie bonus point secured. Straight from the start replacement Gareth Steenson chipped over as Chiefs were going forward collected by Josh Drauniniu 5thTRY scored. Shortly afterwards Looked like Josh collected the ball superbly and put the ball down and scored again with a similar move. But the ref ruled it out for a foul for impeding the sedgley player. From the resulting penalty Sedgley cleared up field secured there lineout and powered hard and Tim Fourie scored a TRY for Sedgley which was duly converted.

That just kicked the Chiefs back into action with a fast and flowing move straight from the restart which replacement Sean Marsdon crossed the line for the Chiefs 6th TRY.

One final push by Sedgley who got there 2nd TRY of the match scored by Dewi O’Hare.

35-12 Final Score

Summary not a great performance by the Chiefs but they got the job done with full maximum points secured. There was a lot of handling errors by both sides and the ref did not have his best game blowing up for too many incidents which made it a stop start game. But at least it gives Peter Drewett an opportunity to sort out the mistakes in readiness for Plymouth on Saturday.
