Another pay day for the Friends' Try Competition?
By Big Bob
March 1 2009
After three hard games in February, the Chiefs should be looking for a big win against bottom placed Manchester. A crowd of 374 saw the Chiefs triumph with a score of 19 – 26 at the away fixture back in November, but hopefully a larger number of spectators (an increase by a factor of ten??) will see an even bigger win on Saturday.

The Mancunians have improved at home as the season has progressed, but they don't travel too well. By way of benchmarks, Manchester have lost 57 – 0 away to Leeds, 62 – 0 away to Bedford and 52 – 10 away to Doncaster and the Chiefs will need to be in this ballpark if they are do to themselves and the fans justice. The question is will Pete Drewett want to rest some players a head of the following weeks tough trip to Nottingham , theoretically a trip that could be made two weeks in a row if the draw for the cup semi-finals is unkind! Memories of Esher should prevent too many “first teamers” being rested.

Thanks to Nigel Walrond in today's (Local) Sunday Independent (01/03/09) I can advise that Manchester's last league visit to Exeter was five seasons ago when they lost by 85 points to 6. The same paper also speculates about Ben Breeze taking a coaching role at Bristol now that Exeter have stated that they will not be offering him a contract next season.I make no apologies for hijacking this preview to say thanks to Ben for what he has done whilst with us for me he is Mr Consistency, he certainly knows how to catch those high balls and he knows how to join in with the attacks as well.

Having had a two week break Manchester should have fresher legs than the home team but I still expect to be adding quite a few coins to my Friends try sponsorship (large) jam jar when the final whistle is blown. The Manchester game is one of the three remaining home league fixtures and I for one am looking forward to urging the lads on. “Come on Exe!” I hope that the Manchester players and fans enjoy the facilities of Sandy Park and that those who support Exeter can have a more stress free Saturday than they have had of late!
