the 2nd half or should that be 2nd half of the first half??

So we've started the second half of the league programme. Does this give any indication of the final outcome or are we in for some games with little meaning?

Championship

League Competition

Exeter Chiefs kicked off the second half of the Championship League with a win away to Dancaster Knights.  There are mixed reports of how this game was played with those listening to radio Devon taking it for a poor match given John Lockyer's commentary.

"Poor game.too much kicking again.but when donny put the pressure on at 9 9 the players stepped up and done what they had to, to win.A ugly win but thats what good teams do" - Tommy Hawk

"Fact is Donny are 2nd from bottom, what will we do when come up against an equally as good a pack as ours, and we most certainly will. We should be worried, we'll come unstuck soon - we have to start preparing now and adopt a Plan B - Plan A is not always going to work. It very nearly didn't today" - swampie

However those who travelled to see it had a more positive tale to tell.

"I feel I really have to reply to your comments...you must have been listening to a differant game than the one I was watching.
I found it to be a close and exciting hard fought and hard won game.
Donny,as they always do,raised their game and gave us a run for our money, but our defence was excellant.Donny had alot of their long term injured players back and this was more like the team we all know.
Our boys played their sox off...it was a very hard and fast game.A pleasure to watch, although not always pretty, or good for the ticker at times!!!
Alot of our supporters in the past have complained when we have run away wins...now,it seems, even a close encounter isn't good enough. There isn't a team in this league, that would put a cricket score against the team that Donny put out Saturday. They were good to watch.
The 15 of us on the coach (yes! 15! where were the rest of you??)had a great day out.The Doncaster supporters were great. The hospitality,as always, superb.Big thanks to all.I wish Donny the best of luck in the play offs.
And above all...WELL DONE EXE...a good a win as we'll see this season" - 4everchief

"As one of the 15 I have to agree with 4everchief, I read a lot of the comments about Saturday and thought they were somewhat unfair to the Chiefs.
It was a great game to watch and very tense in places. Donny made this a tough game with some great pace but Ex worked harder, ran faster(Matt Jess great very impressive) and deserved to win. No game in the Championship is going to be easy for us but you cannot argue with the fact we still keep winning and lets not forget Donny have already beaten Bristol.
The Donny fans were good fun with some great banter I too would like to wish them luck for whats left of the season.
Well done Ex lets keep it going!!" - DiscoChief

Whichever it was the Chiefs are now 12 from 12 and will be looking to make it 13 from 13 on Saturday v Cov.

Aggregate score Chiefs v Knights is a healthy 48-29 (32-20 at home plus 14-9 away) and aggregate score will be what counts with nthe final now over two games.

My view for what it's worth is that yes, the travelling tribe were watching a different game than I was listening too. (Sm100)

to quote you moorsman, if I may, your post read whilst listening to Sat' game.

Pick & Go,Pick & Go,Pick & Go,Pick & Go,Pick & Go,Pick & Go!!!! why aren't we using our quality backs?

this is not the first time this has been asked, didn't we bring in a quality backs coach this summer? true our defence has been awsome yet again and has won us some close games but would these games be close if we had had a plan B when plan A wasn't working?

we have won 12 from 12 so we can't complain too much, my worry is the lack of bonus points from these games, Bristol have lost 2 games but are still only 5 points behind us and we meet them again in 3 weeks, the top spot is not guaranteed yet.

There is also the angle of the two week first team break. The handling errors could be due too being a bit "ring rusty", but that surely can't be the case after just two weeks.

Saying that, reading the Bristol site shows that their team suffered the same errors while beating a poor Birmingham side. Winning 28-0 thats the equal 3rd worst result for Birmingham away this season, as mentioned by one Bristol poster "Of course we shouldn't grumble, but I'm sure the team knows that was a 40 pointer if ever there was one."

We do know how under-par Donny have been playing, but now their injuries have started to diminish will they rise up that league table? I think so. As for meeting equal packs, as mentioned earlier, I think the Donny pack are one of the stronger forces in this league.
Don't forget we play our old friends Plymouth on the 19th (can't wait, in Redrow stand) this teams speciality is the pack forward play, by their supporters comments they have improved since our home clash, which wasn't to convincing. But in the area of defence, we have improved noticeably, so hopefully no breakaway scores next time.
So a plan B may be in the locker, as we have such powerful backs, and as 'Saints' stated we have one of the best Backs coaches around, we may be keeping our powder dry, for the big event.
After all These games are only the warm up for a frantic (stupid) knockout finish.
I trust our coaches and believe in the team, when its needed we will let loose the backs to run riot.
