27th Dec 09
Whilst the many in this world have been eagerly awaiting Christmas Day, many Chiefs fans have been looking beyond to the visit of Bristol to Sandy Park on 27th December.
Since beating Bristol at the Memorial Ground back on the 4th October, the 4th game of the season, Exeter have taken hold of the top spot in the Championship and made it their own, until last week when they travelled to Brickfields, with 13 wins from 13, where they coughed spluttered and were convincingly beaten, ending their unbeaten run. Last Saturday was not a good day as not only did they lose their unbeaten run, but it saw Bristol, in second place move to within a point and saw Bristol overtake the Chiefs in the Least points against. Exeter have by no means excelled in all of their games, having had some very close calls against Donny both home, but more so away; against Welsh at home; at Bedford and against the Pirates as well as a nail biting stutter at the Memorial Ground. We have seen some very exciting if not pretty rugby so far this season.
Bristol have also had mixed fortunes, having given up their top spot after losing that home game against the Chiefs, but they have kept track with Exeter and were chipping away the points difference by gaining bonus points where the Chiefs were unable to do so, currently having gained 9 to Exeter’s 6.
So how will this game go? Exeter should come out firing on all cylinders having taking one hell of a kick up the rear last week, but then Bristol are on a high having improved much over the last weeks, trouncing Bedford in the second half last week. But I think you can forget what is behind us, because both teams want this win so they can start 2010 with the bragging rights. It was always going to be a big one, no matter what last weeks results were, and I’m sure that there will be a huge atmosphere with the sell out crowd eager to see a fierce festive encounter.
I hope that everyone will be in fine voice because the boys will appreciate our help.
Exeter Chiefs 18 Bristol 15 Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
