A sunny day at Sandy Park and a vocal crowd see Exeter Chiefs overwhelm Doncaster Knights.
Exeter Chiefs 51 Doncaster Knights 15
The sun shines and the Chiefs flourish
Most of the talk before the game was either about how close it was likely to be and how good the view from the new North Stand is. But it didn't matter where you were watching from (unless you were a Knights fan) because the Chiefs served up a feast of 15 man rugby. The Chiefs signalled their intent with a 30+ metre drive from catching Donny's kick off and proceded to play them off the park with a high intensity game. Unfortunately a few of the Knights appeared to lose composure as the game progressed and were lucky to play the full 80 minutes. Whilst Danny Gray richly deserned his Man of the Match award the whole squad were given a rousing reception at the final whistle.
When interviewed, Rob Baxter pointed out that it wasn't a faltless performance, which shows the standards the Chiefs are working towards. However there was plenty for the home team and supporters to revel in as they basked in the warmth of what was a glorious spring afternoon.
The new North Stand/Terrace at Sandy Park
The Chiefs now top Pool 'B' as Nottingham lost 10-17 to London Welsh. This means a win against London Welsh next week will ensure the Chiefs a semi-final place.
The Chiefs management and players have been full of praise for the support given to the team and how much it means to them. So let's make sure we get plenty of the Away Tribe at Esher to roar the guys on.
It was a tremendous performance especially from our very dominant forwards. The rolling maul from the kick off return set the tone for the afternoon and it was great to watch a display of such domination. At times i wondered why previous games have been so close as i thought we were in a different class to this Donny team in every aspect.
Perhaps it was the beautiful sunny day and perfect on field conditions. Whatever it was, there is much to look forward to in the coming weeks and the boys should get a major confidence boost from this performance. From a personal point of view, i thought Rennie had an outstanding game and hitting form at just the right time.
