How Many Points?

This season is all about building on last years success and gaining enough points to avoid being in the relegation dog-fight. So how many points will we need?
How Many Points Do We Need?

To Make it to Season 2 in the Prem.

I know the obvious answer is 1 more than the 12th placed team but I thought there might be some indication from the last few seasons.  Well here's how the bottom four finished in the last 5 years of the Premiership.

So, it looks like 30+ points should be good enough with 6 or 7 wins and bonus points are going to be invaluable.  No pressure then and I'm sure Rob & Co and the squad can't wait to get started.

Results from a recent Poll on The Tribe suggests those who voted a few more thought the Chiefs will fall short of 6 or 7 wins but thankfully nobody suggested they would go a full season without at least 1 win.

Question: How many league games will the Chiefs win next season?

Chiefs fans can't wait for the season to begin so .........Bring it on!!!

Re: How Many Points?
taking those stats into account interesting to see only 4 try bonus points were scored by the bottom two teams over five seasons but 57 losing bonus points, does this mean we will not see many try's bonus points this year?

i'm sure RB and the team have looked into this and will get the tactics right to gain the points needed to stay up.

Exeter is so far away from most teams your home record should be good, it is what keeps newcastle in league every year. I would think the key is to keep in touch early on (obviously getting out of it early would be better) and try to win at least four games in winter and man up near then end like you did this season.

Re: How Many Points?
I doubt there were many try bonus points at the top either from the games I saw.

Re: How Many Points?
You tend not to get many bonus points in the Premiership as a lot of the teams are built around Huge mobile defences that can smother an attack before it even starts. Hence some of the low scoring penalties only matches, where teams cancel each other out.

I think it is a difficult one to call, as all 4 "Favourites" for relagation have recruited wisely over the summer, and still are recruiting. However it is gelling the squad, and making the best use of the 15 men on the pitch that will be key.

I can see home wins against the likes of Sale, Falcons & Leeds, maybe a bigger scalp such as the Irish, Wasps or Quins, but away wins will be sparse, and that's where you need to pick up the bonus points.

Re: How Many Points?
I've looked at the Wins for each of the relegated sides:-

09/10 - Worcester
Home
Leeds
Sale
Bath
Saracens
Newcastle
No away wins but 2 draws at L Irish and Glos

08/09 - Bristol
Home
Saints
No away wins but drew at Worcester

07/08 - Leeds
Home
Worcester
Newcastle
No away wins but drew at Worcester

06/07 - Saints
Home
Newcastle
Bath
Wasps
London Irish
Away
Worcester
Leicester

05/06 - Leeds
Home
Saints
Bristol
Worcester
Away
Bath

So, no away wins in the last 3 seasons for the relegated team would suggest we need to ensure Sandy Park is the fortess it was in the Championship and buck the trend by winning away.

Re: How Many Points?
Two interesting posts about the distance and SP becoming a fortress.

I think if we just go to win every home match that should keep us safe!

Re: How Many Points?
I think RBs plan is to win EVERY match!

Go out with that attitude and you have a chance, go out thinking you will certainly lose and guess what?

You WILL lose!

Re: How Many Points?
I think winning every home game could be tricky against some of the opposition we will face, but we may have a good chance of causing some upset and turning over a few away matches.
