Sinbad inspires priceless Glaws fight-back

JSD - brill
By Cherry Picker February 23 2008
A fightback win inspired by England reject James Simpson-Daniel at home to Newcastle and a home defeat for Leicester have given Gloucester a five-point lead at the top of the Guinness Premiership, but the way the season has been going recently, they can’t afford to take anything for granted. There's a long way to go before the play-off places are decided.
With Glaws showing the nerves brought on by their recent inconsistency, Newcastle took a lot of beating, and Sale’s win at Leicester showed that there are probably more teams in contention for play-off places this season than for some time.
Gloucester are going to have to work hard and play well to ensure that they remain in the running.
Dean Ryan TV (Sept 07)Glaws showed their character after recent disappointments by coming back from 11 points behind in the last quarter to win 28-20, and coach Dean Ryan (left) told the good old BBC: “We had to be patient but we got there in the end.
"It was a pretty competitive game and we could easily have lost through not having done a huge amount wrong.
"We didn't make them work for their 14 points before half-time and that increased the hurdles we had to get over."
Falcons coach John Fletcher added: "James Simpson-Daniel was the best player on the pitch and how he isn't in the national fold I don't know.
"He gave Gloucester a huge amount of go-forward and if that guy ever wants to come up to the North East, tell him to give me a call."
Behind 20-9, Glaws saw JSD and James Bailey cross for tries before Akapusi Qera celebrated his return to the team with the winner after Luke Narraway charged down an attempted drop goal by Tom May.

All credit to Fletcher, deserved tribute to Sinbad and nice to know at least one other Rugby coach knows a proper player when he sees one! Falcons were unlucky, Glaws lineout was again rank, how hard can it be to throw a ball accurately? Mind you, the Morris dancing before the throw probably doesnt help. If you know your hooker(s) has a dodgy throw, keep it simple and get the ball in quick before he has time to think about it too much. Lamby didnt look fit or confident and Cooper had the worst game I have seen him have in a Glaws shirt. On the plus side, Adams again had a solid game and will surely be in the Glaws squad for next season and if the rumours of Narraway moving on are true he will be a loss as he had a standout game in the Glaws pack.

The lineout is my huge frustration. You can accept that for a 3 or 4 game period, you can struggle. But these are professional guys with a professional set up behind them. We have been plagued by lineout problems all season, last season, the season before........ Please can we sort it before it costs us dearly?

I will keep saying it and hope it is proved wrong. Munster will massacre that Glaws lineout if it carries on like that. We all know how Munster are going to play but Glaws will be unable to cope with the lineout and resulting rolling maul and I seriously fear a drubbing could be on the cards if Glaws forward related problems are not rectified.
