Glaws aim for a big finish after Heineken setback

A lot has been said since Gloucester’s Heineken Cup defeat at home to Munster last weekend – some of it critical, some of it approaching the abusive, some positive, some negative and some plain daft. But on Saturday lunchtime the talking stops and Glaws go into the most critical part of the Guinness Premiership season – the last four games.

Clinging on to the GP leadership by their finger nails, Glaws have B*th, Harlequins, Leicester and Sale all within six points, all of them breathing down their necks as they battle it out for a place in the top four.
And with home advantage possibly crucial in the play-offs, every game, every pass, every kick and every tackle is going to be vital in a tense ending to the season.
Saracens are the opponents at Kingsholm, where Glaws play three of the last four matches – their fate is in their hands as they prepare to face a side that sprung a big Heineken Cup shock by beating Ospreys last weekend.
This is a sample of what people have been saying to the Citizen since the Munster disappointment -
Dean Ryan: “We are trying to do things slightly different with this group of players, and we have to believe in it, even when things go badly.
"When we make mistakes, we get hammered for it, but we have to believe in what we're trying to do.
“We are heading in the right direction. We are not a million miles away."
Andy Hazell, Gloucester RugbyAndy Hazell:"We talked in the changing room after the Munster game and everyone is happy we are still going forward.
"There's still a lot to play for in the Premiership and if we play in the rest of our league games like we did against Munster in the first half, we will break a lot of teams down.
"The intensity level against Munster was a lot higher than in the Premiership, higher even than the finals we have played in.
"They blitzed our defence but we still kept to our game plan, and now we need to take that intensity back into the Premiership.
"We have to take the positives out of the Munster game into Saracens on Saturday.
"Our results have not been great recently, but we have been playing pretty well and that's hard to live with. We made a few mistakes, but we performed better than we have been doing in the Premiership.”
Buxton (front)Peter Buxton: “We just have to concentrate on taking eight or nine points from our next two games, especially as they are at home. Our form has not been great but we're confident we can get back on track.
“The fact we are out of the Heineken Cup just makes us even more fired up for the rest of the Premiership games and a home semi-final is now a massive goal.”
Chris Paterson (Scotland)Chris Paterson: "Playing against a defence that strong and at that intensity level can only help us, starting at home to Saracens.
"This is another huge game at exactly the same level of last week's. Yes, they have some injuries, but whoever drops out, they have someone as good or even better to take their place.
"Nothing has changed in my mind. I've not been involved in winning too many games since the turn of the year, and I, like the rest of the squad, are determined that will change.
"I still believe we can win the Premiership."

So let's win it, then.
