Glaws ready for Bath after win at Wasps

Ryan Lamb - won duel

In professional sport, winning is everything. But there are different levels of wins, and at the moment it’s difficult to decide whether Gloucester’s victory at Wasps was outstanding or brilliant. Or was it historic? Whatever the answer is, the 25-17 success will have a major influence on the finishing positions in the Guinness Premiership.

Off to a blistering start with two tries in the first ten minutes, Glaws were always the better team, with Ryan Lamb winning his personal duel with Danny Cipriani – not for the first time. Cipriani was replaced before the game was an hour old.
Now Glaws go into the final game of the season at home to Bath knowing that one point will be enough to secure a home game in the play-off semi-finals. In fact, if Wasps fail to pick up maximum points at Newcastle in midweek, that will be enough.
The first Glaws win away to Wasps in 18 years could prove to be a turning point in the development of the team as Glaws showed that while they may still be a work in progress, that progress is clear for all to see and might be gathering pace.
James Simpson-Daniel, GloucesterIain Balshaw’s pressure forced Josh Lewsey to spill a high ball and James Simpson Daniel (right) scored with the loose ball before Mike Tindall powered his way over for a typical try.
Lamb and Cipriani exchanged penalties before Raphael Ibanez crossed for a Wasps try to make it 15-10 at half-time, but Olly Morgan’s try, made for him by JSD, restored the comfortable gap and although Ibanez scored again, Lamb’s penalty denied Wasps a losing bonus.
Glaws coach Dean Ryan came up with a bit of an understatement when he told the BBC: "It is important. We have a good record of finishing at the top. I want to try and maintain that next week but it is more important we get used to winning big games.
"Next week is an enormous game and whoever wins it will be at the top. We have double-banked Wasps in the league. They came into the game at Kingsholm on the back of five wins and we beat them. It shows we can compete at this level and we are in the play-offs.
"We have got to play in these type of games regularly and we will get better.

"We know we are a good side when we have the ball. But just because we won, it is not a guaranteed thing that we have matured.
"We have still got a lot of growing up to do. We still saw cracks today and on another day it might have been exploited."
Bring on Barf.

That is some result. All very well to run up a big score against a side that rolls over, but to win like that at Wasps ... that's something special.

Of course it is a great result and next weekends will be even better when we blast B**h out of Kingsholm.

It really cements your position at the top and puts confidence sky high when you turn up and beat the "form team" of the moment.

Well done Glos, i hope you win the final this time (unless by some miracle you end up facing Tigers).

I don't think we could take an experience like last year's again.
So what's the feeling amongst the fans on Loffreda?

lots of fans think he's failed already. Personally i wonder why the side has an apparent lack of guts at the moment. We need to give Loffreda a good run at it though. If he gets to mould the team how he wants too we have the players to challenge strongly next season.

And i don't think you're in too much danger of a similar final to last season. Whther you win or lose, i think your side has more guts than last season and they won't be letting anyone bully them on the pitch.
