Gloucester start season at home to Tigers

Q - knee op
By Cherry Picker July 4 2008
Gloucester start their 2008-09 Guinness Premiership fixtures with a home game against Leicester Tigers, the side that won by a single point at Kingsholm in the play-off semi-final two months ago. The fixtures have been announced at last, but of course there will be some tweaking later to cater for live television coverage.

Glaws face the Tigers at Kingsholm on the weekend of September 5-7, and their first away game comes the following weekend when they make the short journey to the Memorial Ground to face Bath – at least the weather won’t be as bad as it was in the same fixture last season, we hope.
As the cliche-ridden world of football is forever reminding us, there’s no such thing as an easy game in the Premiership and the third weekend sees Glaws back at home for a game against Harlequins.
Delve (front)But the start of the season is going to be tough anyway, with both Akapusi Qera and Gareth Delve (right) out after knee operations and other players possibly still nursing injuries from last season or from summer internationals.
With players like Delve and Qera possibly out until mid-season and All Black Greg Somerville joining Glaws at the same time, the second half of the season could prove vital as Dean Ryan’s team aim to top the table for a third consecutive time.
Fans will have to wait for the clashes with champions Wasps, who visit Kingsholm in mid-March and host Glaws on the final weekend of the regular season ... isn’t that a coincidence, last season’s champs against last season’s table-toppers on the last day?

Let's hope it's all over by that last game at Wasps. But I bet it isn't.
