Ryan should quit if he wins nothing say fans

DR - pressure
By Cherry Picker
April 8 2009
Gloucester fans believe that if their team fails to win any silverware this season, coach Dean Ryan should leave Kingsholm and another man should get a chance to end the club’s long-running silverware frustration. Or at least, that’s what the majority of those who have taken part in the latest Shedloads poll believe.
We have asked the simple question, should Dean Ryan quit if Glaws win no trophies this season?
So far, 79 people have voted, and 58.23 per cent have said yes, while 41.77 per cent believe Ryan should stay and get another chance.
Ryan’s position has been questioned more and more in recent weeks, with inconsistent performances leaving Glaws with some hard work to do in their final two Guinness Premiership matches to qualify for the play-offs.
Last weekend’s heavy defeat at Northampton raised a lot of questions, and it appears that many fans are beginning to believe that the buck stops with the coach, and when a team wins nothing after going close more than once, it is the coach who should pay the penalty.
Whether the powers that be behind the scenes believe that is true remains to be seen, of course, but it is perhaps significant that Tom Walkinshaw has already given Ryan the go-ahead to sign Cardiff’s
Nicky Robinson and Tom Voyce from Wasps, who will both be added to the Glaws squad for next season.
Would he have done so for a coach who could be heading for the Kingsholm exit?
There’s no doubt that there will be a lot of movement not only at Gloucester but throughout the Guinness Premiership during the summer, with half a dozen Glaws players already linked with moves to other GP clubs or to France.
Whether that movement will include the coach remains to be seen.
The Shedloads poll will remain open until the end of the season.

Knowing ourluck, he'll leave and win something somewhere else. But we're only 80 mins from an EDF win, so don't give up hope ... if the right team turns up we could win it.

79 votes?! I suspect sabotage. Would have to agree with the majority, if Glaws end up potless this season then it is time for a change for me. Six years or so is plenty long enough

I'm sure outsiders have had a dip, but as you say cc, six years is a long time in sport.

I admire DR for his honesty and I dont doubt he genuinely cares but some of his tactical decisions and team selections this season have been poor. With the players at his disposal there is no way Glaws should be out of the HEC so early and in real danger of missing the payoffs.

You're surely not planning to lose to Cardiff, are you?

Glaws cant risk putting out anything other than their strongest available XV because I cant see the Blues resting players, particularly if Toulouse beat them this weekend.

Winning the EDF is worth a few bob ... Tom would not be happy if the final was sacrificed for GP points.

Neither can we. Injuries aside, I will be gobsmacked, not to mention highly agitated, to see a below strength Cardiff Blues team at Twickenham next week. Not after all that hard work in getting there.

Don't forget, we need a trophy just as much as you and the pressure is on to deliver.

Should be a good game then. The score is 1-1 so far this season, so this is the decider. I reckon Blues start favourites, but if Glaws hit their Ospreys form (that's a big IF I know), we can do it.

The rest of your message I can follow, but you've completely thrown me with that one.

Blimey ... I'm going (slightly) mad. I can't explain that. Must have been in a dream that we won the second HC match! Sorry about that - you're winning 2-0 and we owe you one.

I'm having none of that, either. That was then - this is now.

A clean sheet and all that. All to play for in my book and both teams evens as we've not previously met in this competition. That's the way I prefer to look at it, and I'm sure the coaching staff and players will, too.

By the way, I'm reliably informed Tom James will NOT be playing next Saturday - he's going shopping, apparently.

What's he shopping for? Handbags?! Is Nicky Robinson getting a runout? Would be interesting

Whatever the result, let's hope it's a good day out for one and all. Tickets seem to be selling well, so the atmosphere should be good.

Will be a good Glaws day. Hartpury on at 10, Moseley at midday and Glaws last on

I wonder how the Blues win this weekend will effect them - drained or inspired?

At least you know what you get with Glaws and you will know within the first 15 minutes. We will either be competitive or get stuffed by 30!
