And that doesn’t include a decision, yet to be finalised, on the future of coach Dean Ryan.
Ryan has already expressed his opinion on the views of the fans, but we believe that at the end of a frustrating season during which he has said and done some unfathomable things at times, he needs to get his head right and start to realise that while he has his bosses at the club, the fans are the people who really matter.
Basically, Dean, start playing winning rugby and stop talking in riddles.
Club owner Tom Walkinshaw (right) has asked supporters to give him and others time to review what went wrong in the season that has just decided and then make a decision on what is going to be done about it.
Basically, the powers that be need to decide whether a frustrating season was the fault of the players, the coaching staff, or a bit of both.
Clearly the players have to take some of the responsibility – they are the ones on the pitch after all. But many Glaws fans believe that Ryan should also carry the can. The big question Walkinshaw has to answer is not whether DR was to blame – the buck stops with the boss, surely – but how much he was to blame.
Our guess is that the final decision will be that Ryan has to shoulder some of the blame, and he will therefore be either shoved “upstairs” and a first team coach appointed or he will be relieved of some of the more desk-bound managerial duties and left to run the team, with a figurehead on the lines if Ian McGeechan appointed.
The chances of Walkinshaw deciding Ryan has to go appear to be fairly remote – after all, he has been allowed to start the job of rebuilding the squad - but that option is still open to him.
Meanwhile, our calculations suggest that the current situation concerning the comings and goings of players is as follows: OUT: Mark Foster (destination unknown), Anthony Allen (Tigers?), Willie Walker (Wuss?), David Young (Edinburgh), Iain Balshaw (Biarritz), Ryan Lamb (L Irish), Olly Barkley Barf), Jack Adams (Brizzle), Dan Norton (Brizzle), Carlos Nietto (Sarries), Gareth Cooper (Cardiff), Jack Foster (Sale). IN: Seru Rabeni, Nicky Robinson, Tom Voyce. With four months to go, there is plenty of time to get the squad sorted and to get it fit and the tactics right.
After that, no matter who is doing what on the coaching side, the message from the fans has to be clearly understood … we expect a major improvement because we are not willing to pay money to watch also-rans.
