Glaws face Biarritz in HC again
By Cherry Picker
June 9 2009
Nothing to talk about on the coaching front at Kingsholm, but there is some news … for the second season running, Gloucester will line up against Biarritz in the group stage of the Heineken Cup, but this time round there should be some added spice with former Kingsholm star Iain Balshaw having switched to the Basque club earlier in the summer.
The other two teams in Pool 2 are Magners League pair Glasgow Warriors and Newport Gwent Dragons, and Glaws should be hopeful against two teams who hardly set the Magners alight last season and having beaten the Welsh side (just) at Kingsholm in last season’s EDF Cup.
The two HC games against Biarritz ended in home wins, and it won’t be any easier this time round, especially with Balsh giving his new team-mates as much inside info as he can and determined to put one over on his old mates.
The full HC draw is:

Pool 1: Munster, Perpignan, Northampton, Treviso.
Pool 2: Biarritz, Gloucester, Newport Gwent Dragons, Glasgow Warriors.
Pool 3: Leicester, Ospreys, Clermont Auvergne, Viadana.
Pool 4: Bath, Stade Francais, Ulster, Edinburgh.
Pool 5: Toulose, Cardiff Blues, Sale, Harlequins.
Pool 6: Leinster, London Irish, Llanelli Scarlets, Brive.

Did we mention, there’s no news yet on who will be coach at Glaws next season?
But, like thousands of others, we’ll wait, asking ourselves if the club really WANTS to sell any season tickets.

If you don't manage to get out of that group you need shooting. Your only concern ought to be a resurgent Biarritz.

We've got a toughie.

No one knows what state Glaws will be in next season but they cant blame the grouping if they fail to get out of it (with all due respect to the other three) I thought there were a couple of real "groups of death" and the Blues are definately in one but if they replicate last seasons form they will be a danger to everyone.
