Bucko signs, and things are looking up for Glaws

Bucko - new deal
By Cherry Picker
January 27 2010
2010 is not very old yet, but already it’s looking as it it’s going to be a far better year for Gloucester than 2009 was. Performances and results are on the up, players who can influence the club’s future for the good are queuing up to sign new contracts and this weekend there’s a chance to make amends for one of the poorest performances of the season so far.

That was in the first game of the New Year, when Glaws were held to a 13-point home draw by Worcester Warriors in a game that summed up a lot of what has gone wrong for the team this season.
But Heineken Cup better performances against Biarritz and Newport-Gwent since then have been rewarded with a place in the last eight of the Amlin Challenge Cup and have done a lot to allay the fears held by many Glaws fans that the season was going to end in tears.

Now they face Wuss at Kingsholm (Saturday, 3pm kick-off, THE day and time for rugby) in the first of two LVC games that will hopefully help the revival gather pace – the second is away to Quins a week on Sunday.

Meanwhile, one of the club’s longest-serving players, Peter Buxton, has extended his contract up to the end of the 2011-12 season, just days after making his 200th first team appearance.
That deal comes after Luke Narraway agreed a two-year deal and Semi Tadulala joined until the end of the season.
There are also reports that Leicester back-row Brett Deacon had agreed to sign for the club.

Bucko is the sort of player Glaws need and his 100 per cent commitment to the cherry and white cause has rightly earned him massive respect amongst the fans, the same applying to Narraway and others who have extended their deals this month.

While we have to accept the days of professional rugby have largely put paid to the days of club loyalty on the level it used to be, the fact that Glaws are signing players like these must be welcomed.
Perhaps the days of welcoming the sort of players who can be described as mercenaries more interested in the pay cheque than the club are coming to an end.

Yes, they play for money, but supporters have a right to expect commitment as well as potential for their cash.

If we can finish the GP season on a high, top half perhaps even play-offs (well, I can dream) I'll be happy.
I'll be even happier if Delve and Morgan sign up.
Then roll on 2010-11.

I think the playoffs are out of reach but a top six and H.C qualification must be the minimum target now, especially as Glaws are free to "concentrate on the league"
