Morgan signs on to give Glaws another boost

Olly M - new deal
By Cherry Picker
February 1 2010
Full-back Olly Morgan has quelled the fears of many Gloucester fans who felt he might be leaving the club by agreeing a new two-year contract extension at Kingsholm – and that is brilliant news at a time when the club’s fortunes appear to be on the up after the unhappy start to the season.

Morgan is the 11th player to agree a new deal in recent weeks, but his decision can be regarded as one of the most important because of what he brings to the squad and his popularity with the fans.
A genuine class act who is still only 24 but has been hit by more than his share of cruel injury luck, Morgan is coveted by many other clubs, and his decision can be regarded as a major coup by Glaws.
Coach Bryan Redpath told the Citizen (or did they get it from the club site?): "Olly is another core player for us. We're pleased with where we're at in terms of recruitment, and the stability of having so many guys extending their contracts this early means we can focus our attentions on making sure we achieve what we've set out to for the rest of this campaign.
"Olly offers us genuine quality at full back. There is no-one to compare with him under the high ball and he offers a real attacking threat coming into the line.

"He is rightly ambitious about being successful for his club and representing his country, and Gloucester is somewhere that can help him achieve this."

Morgan himself added: "It's good to have things sorted and be able to concentrate fully on playing for Gloucester. I've been here all my career and once we sat down and talked things through it was an easy decision to sign.
"Gloucester's a great club and with Bryan in charge there's a really good feeling about the place which is now coming through in our performances."
Morgan joins Freddie Burns, Peter Buxton, Will James, Scott Lawson, Luke Narraway, Akapusi Qera, Charlie Sharples, Alasdair Strokoch, Henry Trinder and Nick Wood in agreeing new terms with Glaws.

That really is great news. I genuinely believe, when Morgan is fit and confident, there is no better 15 in the English game and that includes Armitage slim.
It must of been so frustrating for him to be injured the same time as Armitage was but if Olly has a strong second half to the season, there is no reason why he shouldn't get a call up to the England EPS in the near future.

I agree, but time is on his hands. I'd forgotten he is only 24.

It is surprising how young he is. I just hope he is not going to be another Sinbad and keep getting injured as soon as someone mentions "England".
